| Hi guys, it's been a while since I've last been here, but this forum always feels like home to me! I just wanted to wish everyone here who've gathered because of Mao, a Happy New Year since it's already 2012 in Japan, where I live. 2011 was a tough year for Mao (and myself for personal reasons...that's why I've been away from this forum for so long)...I hope all the best for her and everyone who supports her throughout 2012! PS: MikiAndoFan, I made another digital new year's card for our Japanese forum using Miki as a motif. You can see it here: https://2img.net/r/ihimizer/img252/9850/2012forumcard.png | |

I'm so glad you liked my cards! Actually, I've made 2 other versions of Mao New Year cards (they're in Japanese), so I think I'll post them here so you can enjoy them as well. Btw, I think it's very rare for Japanese folks including me to use the moon for a motif in New Year's cards like I did in the first one. A lot of people use the sun for a New Year motif, but not the moon, probabaly because they kind of image the sun as a symbol of life and a new start. Compared to that, I'm guessing many people might think the moon symbolizes death even, and so it's not the kind of image you'd want to use for a New Year's card. But personally, I think the moon symbolizes resurrection, and also a new start just like the sun; I mean, that's what the moon's been doing every month eversince it existed, right? So that's why I chose to use the moon in the first card, wishing Mao would be at her best this year, and prove all those who say her peak is over wrong! - shikure wrote:

Pochi, wish you all the best and have a great year ever since you deserve a great one *hug* Thanks so much shikure! 2011 had been extremely cruel to Japan, very cruel to Mao, and a bit cruel to me. Some tragedies can't be avoided of course, but I hope for you, Mao, all the other skaters and everybody here, 2012 would be calm and pleasurable unlike it's former year. You all feel like family to me, luv you all!

Wow, those two are beautiful as well I love how natural Mao looks in the moonlit one, like she is really there encircled by that moonlight, just gorgeous... I'm not an expert on Japan of course, but I thought that maybe the moon could be a good japanese new year's motif because of the association with the story of the rabbit that pounds mochi on a full moon http://img3.etsystatic.com/il_fullxfull.298766731.jpg but I like how you described it as symbolizing ressurection. I wish you and Mao and everyone here a fresh, renewed start to this year
