| Thanks for the info linglang...So at this point, Denis is still planning to enter. I heard he has some kind of infection and he had to have a tooth removed and stuff: - via The Skating Lesson in FB wrote:

His fans (including me) are all very worried. He already has some other injuries, and along with this infection, a boot situation!? Someone up there, plz give Denis a break!!!!! I'll stop being an athiest if you'd just do that (...and let Mao win OGM in Sochi while you're at it, thank you in advance)!

NOOOO ... what happened, what infection he got!? This sounds horrible. ISU may not have heard from Denis Team yet and so they may be keeping the entry list intact. I'm so sorry to hear that. He's on a rising note since last season and this ... I join you pochi, I'll be praying for his quick recovery.

| Oh God, this sounds terrible, poor Denis. Seriously, he can't get a break. We had a glimpse at worlds, at what he's capable of when he's remotly healthy, and I was really looking forward to see what he'll produce this season, and now this. I wonder what all of this is doing to his psyche, there's only so much of bad stuff one can take, before starting to loose it. Whatever he has, I hope he'll get healthy, fix his boot problem and have an awesome remaining of the season. I didn't know that bruised ankles can be this dangerous. | |

Interesting to see the big gap there is in points between Mao and the rest, and i'm quite surprised to see Korpi so high on the list can't even remember when the last time i saw her compete was. but I still find the icenetworks Ranking more reliable and more understandable compared to the rankings on ISU. the ISU Rankings and order just rarely make much sense.

| IceNetwork article has some quotes from Frank Carroll on Denis http://www.icenetwork.com/news/2013/10/25/63359426/gold-overcomes-travel-troubles-jumps-to-leadICE CHIPS - World silver medalist Denis Ten has been home in Kazakhstan since last week while battling an infection, his coach, Frank Carroll, said. According to Carroll, Ten has had an infection that has resulted in black spots on both of his ankles and an infection in his jaw. Ten even had to have a tooth removed. Carroll also said a junior-level skater from Italy who trains at their rink in Los Angeles has suffered from a similar ailment. "He has these spots on his ankles, and they are ugly," Carroll said. "And it aggravates things when he puts on his skates. He left to go home before Skate America and will meet with doctors, and I hope to God that they help him." Ten withdrew from Skate America, held last weekend in Detroit. He is scheduled to compete at Cup of China, Nov. 1-3, but Carroll is not sure whether he will be able to skate. …
I don't think he can make it CoC and I don't think he needs to. He needs rest and cure so that he can come back before the Olympics.

| Poor Dennis. I hope to get well soon and come back in time for the Olympics. By the way, I wonder what has kept Taka from becoming a top skater? I don't follow men singles as much as ladies singles, but he has good skating skills (watching Japan Open made me realize how good his edges are), beautiful footwork, beautiful body lines, decent jumps and musicality (to my unprofessional eyes). Basically I can't think of any thing he can't do. What does he lack? A competitive mentality? He doesn't seem to have true grit like Yuzuru or Dai or Machida. Probably in order to succeed in FS, being talented is not enough. You have to be a great competitor.

I wonder the same , may be he is talented but he is not so in love with this sport like Mao or Daisuke, and I think that he needs better programs, the only that I love is his program of Bold as love And I am really worried that he doesn`t qualify to olympic team, sorry but I whish Yuzu stay in home, he is very young. but Oda is really good too, no but I want Dai, Taka and Machida

And Yuzu is a great fighter, he's able to pull himself together after a disaster.
I would have to agree with you pearly. It's not about who we want to go, or what's fair. For the Japan Skating Federation, it's about who's likely to bring home a medal (preferably gold). As far as the ladies, Mao is the only one who's capable of beating Yuna , even at her best. And as far as the men, Yuzu, Dai, Machida and Nobu are the best pick of the men. Even if Taka skates cleanly, his performance leaves alot to be desired, especially when competing against someone who's as good as Patty (No one can compete with Dai artistically), and Yuzu's jumps can rival patty's.

Plus: What if he infects other skaters? Another kid has the same problem. My knowledge about medical stuff is almost zero, so forgive me if this is a stupid question, but can such an infection (supposedly coming from bruised ankles) be contagious? I've never heard of bruised ankles spreading infection throughout one's body. But then, I never had this injury. Whatever it is, I hope he'll get healthy soon. on a happier note: I can't wait to see Zijun. I hope she'll have a great competition.

Denis seems to have a very serious infection, especially if it involves his jaw and both of his ankles. The dark spots could be from an abscess/cellulitis, but I think this could be osteomyelitis (in which the infection involves his bones)- hopefully not. In terms of whether or not it is contagious, that depends. In some ways it is as it is caused by aggressive bacteria. Whoever dresses/changes the wounds would put on gowns/gloves, but if there is no contact with the wound directly, there shouldn't be too much concern. Our skin is very good at blocking out bacteria- if someone had broken skin etc. and touched the wound, then there would be concern of bacteria spreading. Unless other skaters contacted him directly and for some reason touched it with a cut in their skin, it should be fine. So this is not like SARS- where it was airbourne and spread much quicker. But the main concern is not whether it is contagious, but is his recovery.

But if they haven't withdrawn yet, it may not be as bad as it sounds. If it were that bad, I think Frank wouldn't want him to enter at this point already. Let's hope it isn't all that bad. There's already been too many injuries already in which in worst cases took away Olys entirely from a skater (like Kiira's case). Kaetlyn's injury must be pretty bad too, otherwise I can't imagine she would withraw from SC during it. I can only hope none of these would happen anymore.

I was thinking the same, if it were very serious, he would've withdrawn, or maybe he's just stubborn and wants to wait to the very last moment, to see if he will be able to skate. IMO, it's not MRSA. This infection is resistant (immune) to most antibiotics and it takes a very long time to heal, so if he had it, he'd have no choice but to withdraw from everything and hope that he'll be somehow able to compete in Sochi. Denis, get well soon.
