Alena Leonova

I have a confession to make - after Mao, Alena Leonova is my favourite skater I love that she is not trying to be a pretty flower on the ice, it's like she almost has too much personality.
So I thought I will celebrate her great performance at the world championship and open a topic about her. This was by far her best competition of the season with two clean programs. They were the only ones that made me smile (and her hair too!! ).
So while we are waiting for some good news from Mao this can probably lighten up the mood a little:

I really liked her performances too. I didn't expect her to skate that well! One thing that made me :eek: was her SP costume , but after Mao's Bells outfit I learned to ignore the costumes and just enjoy the skating.

I love her LP music edit !

Both costumes were terrible this season. Her hair too. But I like her, she has such an energy. You can tell she loves to skate, and her LP really made me smile, although I knew she would surpass Mao.

She reminds me of Irina. Very energetic but lacking in grace and refinement. I prefer Ksenia's skating over hers. She skated really welll but I didn't think her PCS deserved to be higher than Mao and Alissa's.

I thought that her hair and costumes were so bad that it was kind of cool

I was surprisingly delighted with her at worlds too. I like Ksenia better, but I'm glad Aleona (re)proved herself again to me and everyone else as well. It's good to see her spunk back, which is what I think is her best quality.

I was a little shocked at her dress and hair in the SP. A clown themed program with a clown dress is bad enough. But a short, curly red hair do to top it off with? Nooooo! I liked her hair much better in th LP.

Hi babyaga, thanks so much for opening a thread for Alena! You spoke what I felt -- I was immediately intrigued to her after watching her powerful & energetic FS, with a complex emotion knowing that she will surpass Mao.

Alena had the best performance of the night , she had the fire that no one from top skaters had . Absolutely thrilling skating.

I am very curious to see what Alena will look like next year, after she changed her coach to Morozov. I hope he will not try to change completely what she is but will rather develop further her spark.
