Joe "I came from a distant future to save you all" Hisaishi.

My Neighbour Totoro OST - The Path of Wind.

The version with cello.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1EP9NuyHqY
And with violin (and also some enigmatic man in black, playing the last).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmVqslsmV0M
I love the first one more, because it's genial. While the second one is merely stunningly amazing.

It's beautiful! Worship Someone should skate to this. Swoon

The Path of Wind on piano and cello is just amazing. I've heard this song in its original version (as in used in the movie), but this version is even more dramatic. Love Hearts

Too bad the quality of the sound on YT isn't so great. I would love to have a CD version of this, but probably there isn't any... Depressed Crying (At least I haven't managed to find it).

Thanks so much, summervie, for sharing the link! It's such a beautiful rendition of gorgeous music.

I also searched extensively in Amazon, but could not find a CD version. But, my god, Joe Hisaishi has gazillion CDs out there!

Strangely, i like the movie version just as much and it is this version that brings me to tears. It just touches my heart...

Not sure about CD, but on DVD - definitely. Firstly, look how this piece (from the same concert) has been shot/montaged. Not every movie can afford such quality in this part. Smile And secondly, the description of the video mentions that the one is from a "DVD concert". Sweatdrop

I'm glad that I'm not alone here familiar with such words as "Totoro", "Joe Hisaishi" and (probably even) "Hayao Miyazaki". Smile

But of course! I've watched all Miyazaki-sensei's movies (except for Omoide Poroporo and Howls Castle - which I hope to see sometime soon).

And suddenly I feel like rewatching Totoro. I caught a nasty case of flu, so as I'll be missing my classes tomorrow anyway, I might as well spend the time productively. Heaven knows I could use some catharsis. Unconscious

Oh, that's great! Smile Only "Omoide Poroporo" isn't a Miyazaki's work, it was made by Isao Takahata, while Miyazaki-san was just a producer back then. Smile And I also haven't seen it. Smile
But I've seen all the Miyazaki's films (Lupin, Nausicaa, Laputa, Totoro, Kiki, Porco Rosso, Mononoke, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle), and while my favorite is "Porco Rosso", I consider "Totoro" like the most important of his works. Because if there is a film (animated or not) capable to make this planet a better place, I give my voice by "Totoro". Smile

Get better!

P.s.
Looking at these sketches, I want to believe that the best His work is still ahead. Smile

http://cafe.joins.com/cafefile/n/e/newage/22.%20Wong%20Chia%20Chi's%20Theme.wma

~Wong Chia Chi's Theme~ from the 'Lust, Caution' (probably the best movie I've seen in a couple of years) soundtrack.

I'd love if some choreographer could make a program out of it (combining it with the other parts of the soundtrack perhaps), for a female skater who then could make it justice in the context of the story.
Just not to forget in that case to set a special screening of the movie for judges (at least those who fit into the "17+" age restriction group -P), so that they could understand what it's all about.

Well, this is kind of random, but when I was watching 4CC, I really liked the version of the "Schindler's List" theme that Tina Wang (from Australia) used in her LP, and I thought Mao could do an excellent job with a heartwrenchingly beautiful song like that. A lot like her 07-08 "Fantasia for Violin and Orchestra" SP.

I can't find a link with Tina's LP, but here's the original version of the theme:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5Llb8rPrzc

Mao might not be able to do something malevolent/wicked sounding like "Danse Macabre" well, but I think Mao does "so beautiful you can cry" very, very well. Like her "So Deep is the Night" EX. Swoon

Yup, you're right - it looks like she used it in the 2000-01 season. I think some other people have used it too..but I think it's relatively uncommon compared to some of the other pieces (Carmen, Tosca, tango pieces, etc).

I found one of the Schindler's List songs that I think is even better!

"I could have done more" from the Schindler's List soundtrack:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xlg9VksmRM

I can totally see a step sequence occurring around the 4:35 and on section. And in my imagination, I can see Mao doing one of those big dramatic arabesques like she did in the middle of the 07-08 SP step sequence. Oh, it would be so beautiful... Swoon

Well, this is totally unrelated to Mao. Very Happy

But I went to a Regina Spektor concert recently, and I thought some of her songs are really interesting.

Check out her songs sometime!

YAY! I thought you might! Very Happy Her song has part of a Boris Pasternak poem:
http://oldpoetry.com/opoem/30397-Boris-Pasternak-Black-spring--Pick-up-your-pen--and-weeping---

And apparently the title/lyric "Après moi, le déluge" comes from the King of France Louis XV (or his lover):

I had no idea where to put this, but I was just listening to Change by Taylor Swift (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1jYllE0T-k), and realized that the song perfectly fits Mao right now. Here are the lyrics:

And it's a sad picture, the final blow hits you
Somebody else gets what you wanted again
You know it's all the same, another time and place
Repeating history and you're getting sick of it

But I believe in whatever you do
And I'll do anything to see it through

Because these things will change, can you feel it now?
These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down
It's a revolution, the time will come for us to finally win
We'll sing hallelujah.
We'll sing hallelujah.

So we've been outnumbered, raided and now cornered
It's hard to fight when the fight ain't fair
We're getting stronger now from things they never found
They might be bigger but we're faster and never scared

You can walk away and say we don't need this
But there's something in your eyes says we can beat this

'Cause these things will change, can you feel it now?
These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down
It's a revolution, the time will come for us to finally win
We'll sing hallelujah.
We'll sing hallelujah.

Tonight we'll stand, get off our knees
To fight for what we worked for all these years
And the battle was long, it's the fight of our lives
Will we stand up champions tonight?

It was the night things changed, can you see it now?
These walls that they put up to hold us back fell down
It's a revolution, throw your hands up, 'cause we never gave in

We'll sing hallelujah.
We sang hallelujah.
Hallelujah.

I listened to music by Secret Garden from a while ago- it was on a C.D., but I didn't really know who they were.

Recently, I found their music on Youtube, so now I'm quite excited to share.

They're an Irish-Norwegian duo, and they play Neo-classical music. They incorporate voice, but it's mostly violin and some piano.
It's perfect if you like beautiful and calming music that incorporates nature.

Here is a very beautiful one: Serenade to Spring

Papillon (butterfly)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltjUNAMGwmQ

Heartstring:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAo8ukIkxns&feature=related

And they were the ones who wrote that famous song "You Raise me Up"- I just found out about this!
