How nice! Did you wear folk costumes? Which ethnic music did you use?
What pieces of ballet programs do you like to watch?
Among classical ballet programs, I love aurora's variations from the sleeping beauty But I also like contemporary dance pieces.
Sorry for a late reply! I totally missed your post until right now.
Yes, I wore folk costumes. I also was forced to wear a wig or fake braids for some of the dances!
I had shoulder-length hair, but it's a tradition that for some of the dances the ladies should have long hair (waist-long) and put them in a braid.
My ensemble had mostly Polish dances in its repertoire, both folk and gentry dances. But we also danced some Ukrainian, Russian and Irish dances.
It sounds like fun, but there were times when it was a nightmare!
I'll never forget the time when our ensemble was invited to dance at a Polish festival celebrating the Harvest. It was summer, and the weather was so hot that if we wanted, we could fry eggs on the road. It was impossible to last long while standing in the sun.
And we had to dance in the full sun while wearing THIS:
I think it's a miracle that nobody died!
As for ballet, I have many favourites. I loved "Romeo and Juliet" and "Swan Lake" with Nureyev and Fonteyn. I also truly enjoyed Matthew Bourne's "Swan Lake", it was an amazing remake. Here are two of my favourite scenes:
