I'm genuinely confused by this idea to be honest, and I've been seeing this suggestion a lot lately elsewhere as well. It's not about the score differential between a 3-3 and a 3A that needs to be addressed since the two fulfill different jump requirements in the SP. At least in the SP, a 3A will *always* have a higher payout than a 3-3, because a 3A will be in place of a 2A (if rotated, a 5.2 point boost; if UR'ed, 2.7). The point difference between a 3-3 vs. a 3-2 on the other hand, are:

3+3T vs. 3+2T (2.7 BV advantage if fully rotated, 1.5 if the 3T is UR'ed)
3+3Lo vs 3+2Lo (3.3 BV advantage if fully rotated, 1.8 if the 3Lo is UR'ed)

Since Amano is being mentioned, I will like to point out that he's just as likely of UR'ing or DG'ed a +3 regardless of whether it's a +3T or a +3Lo (see: Kanako's 3T-3T or Mao's 2A-3T). If Mao can work her 3+3s back to the ease and consistency she had on them during 05~early 08 then I can support this notion, but until then, the current SP jump layout is fine the way it is. The same goes for the FS. Well, from my point of view anyway.

I see your point but I also think doing the 3A in the short does take a lot of toll from Mao. And most importantly, it can affect the rest of her performance if that jump doesn't go well. It does have a higher payoff if the 3A is the only jump she has issues on, but if her 3A is unsuccessful, she also risks her issues on her later combos. And this could be costly with a strict caller, as we've seen here. But if Mao attempts a 3-3. Even if she gets one jump downgraded, her next passes are a single triple jump and a double axel, which are less likely to be called. So in the worst case scenario, she still has two triples, whereas in present worst case scenario she is only left with one fully rotated triple.

I hope my internet won't be this laggy by the time virtue/moir and davis/white skate....

I really can't see the logic behind Kanako's UR on her 3-3 (I can't remember the 3Lo, any insight?), or Mao's Downgrades... Really need to have a word with whoever decided Shin Amano was a good choice to be a technical specialist...

I really don't mind whether Mao gets a new LP next season or not, I'm sure it'll be amazing either way; I just really hope she doesn't go to TAT for choreography for it or her SP (Love her, + great for an exhibition program, but please Mao, not for competitive ones...)

I mean - will an ex-skater who wasn't very talented to begin with - be able to identify such nuanced mistakes!

How come such a skater who really never left any impact in any competition gets to hold such an important job? I really want to know what kind of training they go through...?
This guy obviously does not know his job! He despises Japanese skaters with all his might for god knows what reason?!

And the judges? An acute case of 'Yuna-ism'!!
Frankly - they don't even question the << They are just waiting for the << signal to give Mao a big 0!

You hear skaters like Tara - Irina - Shizuka commentating on other skaters...
What they spot - at times judges don't see it - and what judges spot - often commentators don't agree -
Is it that the technical panel is dubious? Are the commentators all wrong about their experience? Are we simply blinded by our idol that we can't see the truth?
The answer is just too OBVIOUS!

For the longest time, I couldn’t watch the news. I felt guilty about eating a nice warm meal knowing that the victims were in shelters cold and hungry. I wonder if Mao felt the same way and lost her appetite.

Anyway, I stopped caring about the jumps, scores, and medals as soon as I heard about the emotional toll Mao has been going through lately. All I wanted was for her to try to enjoy herself out there, without worrying about anything else. She was able to fight through it (what a fighter), so I'm really proud of her. Lesser people would have given up. Now all I want is for her to eat lots and get a lot of rest.

Though I feel horrible for Kanako. I hope she wasn't extremely discouraged at her first Worlds ever What is up with Amano!? I'm glad to hear that people have been complaining, and I hope more people do so. It sucks that there's no accountability, even with the judges' scores - nothing will happen to that judge who gave Yu-Na a +1 on her lutz for instance.

Does the ISU have some kind of system for reviewing Tech Specialists? For example, if enough people complain about him, would they take some kind of action? If they don't have one, they really should...

A 3-3 in the SP can have just as much of a toll, however. Too many people are forgetting how Mao struggled with consistency on Fantasia and Clair de Lune when missing the 3-3 combination will have a negative effect on the remainder of the program. Just singling out the 3A as being the problem is not really fair. I'm not going to comment on the worst case scenario that you presented as it's completely speculative. Oh well, I guess this is something we have to agree to disagree on.

GO Miki. I really hope Mao can have a good rest after this season. She deserved it. I never know that the tsunami really affected Mao that much. Mao need to eat more again. Hope Team Sato can really help Mao out. Mao should go out of the country. Mao need to gain back some weight and be the old Mao again.

I was hoping for the pink dress too....They did great...Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch it as whole because the stream kept freezing....Holding my breath for the scores...
