OH MY GOD! 141+ for her first competition after a year off. She is a freaking goddess. And this wasn't even overscored. She can easily score higher in both,TES and especially in PCS. Simply unbelievable. I can't wait for videos. And I love the colour of her dress and the belt is simply stunning.

@silenceisgolden, unfortunately, I can't see the clip.
The clip with 2A-3T can be seen here, incl. part of Lisa's practice, and more practice of Mao: (Oh, this one has English translation channel!)

My internet signal is really crappy today so I missed at least a quarter of Mao's program but from what I've managed to see, this LP is on it's way to become a masterpiece. I really really like it. Can't wait to see it later in the season when she'll become more used to it. Go Mao and welcome back!

There is no e, so the judges have definitely noticed it too I'm sooo proud to be Maofan, what a comeback, she looks like she was never away from the ice a performance with 7 triples and level 4 on all her spins and steps, with beautiful music and choreography, to die for steps and spirals, she is in amaaazing condition, way to go Mao

Ballerinamao, I completely agree with you. She was stunning, so good and is only the beginning of the season. And welcome back to the forum.
Thaaanks zarinna i have missed this forum alot, and i'm sooo happy to see Mao back, she on her own makes we want to follow the sport, today she alone made me soo happy, and I already look crazy forward to the next competition she entr and seing her sp and ex. programs. I really loove the music and the passionate step sequence, and her jumps looked amazing, it's quite remarkable how even her jumps look elegant and refined! I just miss seing her other gourges spirals, and the spins she did during the 2010 season, hope we will see some of them in the sp, i loooved her position in them, and the variation she did

I may be wrong, but wasn't there a rule change so that now everyone gets a ! and no more "e"'s?
Nevermind I was thinking of "e" leading to a decrease in base value, and ! allowing the base value of the jump to stay the same.
Good for Mao for working on it, I'm glad that there was such an improvement in just this one year! That video of the correct Lutz, you can do it Mao!!!
I just saw the video of her Madame Butterfly , reminds me of just how much I missed her skating, such flow across the ice and smoothness. Still early start to the season, but it'll become even more expressive as she becomes more familiar with it in competition. That spiral though, just gorgeous. The 3A had so much ice coverage. Part of me wanted more from Lori in terms of choreography... I like her dress, it reminds me of her Jupiter costume, which I loved. It looks better in video. I kinda wished it was a different color, but I guess Mao said it's one of her favorite colors.
Can't wait for this spectacular season!!
ETA: Just watched Shoma...just Wow! What an inspiring skate! Loved his expressiveness! He's retained his cuteness even as he got older, just so adorable! And he was so shy to give Mao a hug after her skate hahaha! And Mao using Paddington Bear on him in the K&C awww just too cute I wonder how far apart they are in age, age doesn't matter anyway

Does anyone have a no-commentary version of Mao's FS? I liked what I saw, but they talk too much.

To be honest I haven't read the new rules so I don't know what's the deal with "e" and !. All I know that both exist and it's better for a skater to get ! and not e.
I do agree with you about the lack of choreography, but that's typical Lori. The only trully spectacular programs choreography wise she did, were those for Kostner, but the question remains how much of that choreography was solely Lori's and how much input did Karo have. But overall, this program still looks fantastic and I can't wait to see it later in the season, especially worlds. And I love this colour on Mao. I chuckled when I saw confused Shoma not knowing whether to give Mao a handshake or to hug her. And Mao making the decision for him and just going for the hug. I love team Japan's spirit and especially their friendship, so much. And thank you so much sapphiresky for posting all the videos!

Silenceisgolden already posted Mao's EX from carnival on Ice but here are some more:
I really like the SP step sequence she skated to at the end! It's very energetic and is choreographed well. I would be happy if the pic of the costume she wore at COI that silenceisgolden posted is her SP costume! She did say that her costumes are 2 of her fav colors, so I assumed her SP costume would be red.
I'm also glad they fixed her jacket for puttin on the ritz so that it's less constricting.
ETA: Thanks for posting the Skating Lesson silenceisgolden!
I guess Jenny and Dave were just as excited as us for the Japan Open- they did this vid so quickly. I really found it to be entertaining, especially the end when they both said Mao's Comeback was the highlight for both of them. That's right Mao's 3A has been there all along haha. Jenny was more skeptical about Mao's Lutz, but she didn't see the practice video. The rest of it was hilarious, and their observations about Ashley and Gracie were quite true.
And love that pic of Javier and Shoma! Adorable!

Mao Asada (JPN): It joys the figure skating purest in me to see Mao Asada competing again. I watch her and this deep sense of contentment settles over me and I think to myself, "This...this right here...this is why I love figure skating." And this is what has been missing for the past year. Last season we had to choose between technical brilliance and lovely skating; no one skater could give us both. With Mao you get it all rolled into one: the technical proficiency (7 triples here including a clean 3A) and the aesthetics that make skating beautiful. I didn't realize until watching this just how much I missed Mao last year. She brings something to this sport that none of the other ladies in this field can.
I did not expect her to debut so strongly here. I'm thoroughly and completely impressed with what she did: 7 triples including that 3A (of which she is still the Queen of until further notice). She opened with it and it was very good. It wasn't as solid as some of the practice videos (there was a slight swing on the landing) but it was backwards and it was clean. No 3-3 this time but with the 3A off the top and 6 other triples (including a very nice 2A-3T in the bonus), it wasn't needed. Mao's "Madame Butterfly" program is classic Mao: light, soft, not overdone and very well-suited to Mao's style. I love the dress and I think she looked beautiful. I'm so happy she's back...
This was an easy win for Mao and if she skates like this all season long, all of them will be easy wins. Of course the scores at Japan Open are always a bit inflated but there's no denying she kicked ass here. If anyone had any doubts about her coming back, she just erased them.

Thank you so much everyone for posting links and translations! I can't stop watching her LP. Step sequence gives me goosebumps every single time. And the way she feels the program... I wanted her to skate to this music for so long and I love it! I wish for a bit more choreography at certain parts of the LP, but this is just nitpicking. Can't wait to see this at CoC. This year off really did wonders for her. I'm sooooo happy she's back. This sports needs her. And I completely agree with NakedIceBlog, she totally kicked butt here! And I hope she will continue to do so throughout the season. Gooooo Mao!
