| I guess getting the 3-3 downgraded 3 times made her nervous to attemp it at all... Hopefully she'll nail it tomorrow. Aww, Mao-chan! Have more confidence in yourself, those 3-3's in the practice were gorgeous and definitely fully rotated! Good thing is that her other elements and PCS gave her the lead anyway. Go, Mao! | |

| I felt she was trying not to cry....., she looked so sad I think same as z4mboni, she has nervous problem about 3-3 during competition... , as she can do totally fine during practice. I hope she can overcome this struggling and have her confidence back!! I wanna see her smile! | |

| After Skate Canada I spent some time to rewatch in slow-mo most of Mao's 3-3s to see when the problem started. They looked great right until Worlds, but after that at JO, Carnival on Ice and SOI her jumping technique changed a bit - after landing the 3F she had a split second of hesitation, during which her blade started to turn on ice and only then she got up in the air, but she had already lost some speed and actually needed to rotate a bit further in the air to make up for the pre-rotation. In the result, the loop was just a bit underrotated. The 3F-3Ls in the practice have shown that this is not a technical problem and she can land the combo perfectly. I think that it is a mental issue, just a split of asecond of hesitation, "Will I be able to rotate it?" and because in loop combos one needs to launch into the second jump immediately that split of a second is enough to make her underrotate or pop the second jump. I have the confidence that she will be able to overcome this problem, though. If she got back her 3A after a long period of not being able to land it because of the growth spurt and not handling the pressure, she can overcome the problem with 3-3 as well. It was only 2 weeks since Skate Canada, when she had problems with rotating the 3 loop and "was in no state to attempt the 3A". Now she can do them perfectly in the practice. That's fast improvement, I's say. There's still a lot of time before GPF and Worlds, I'm sure Raphael will get her mentally ready. | |

| I just watched the program. Despite the mistake, it was quite beautiful. They used a really nice camera angle during the spiral sequence and it's just spectacular The commentators liked the positions too Cute moment when camera showed a close-up on "SPAIN Mao": the russian commentator read it aloud "Spain loves Mao" and then added "Everyone loves Mao" Sad news, lots of stuff got downgraded because Mao didn't hold the positions long enough and got lvls 2 and 1, 3 for step sequence (it had a tiny not-quite-stumble). -3 for not completed combo and -1 for flutz. Or that might be good news, because in spite of that she's still in the lead and she certainly is able to get high levels and land that combo perfectly. Just a bit more concentration, and no more that perfectionist approach - it's good to be a perfectionist in training, but in competition when something goes wrong one cannot let it influence the rest of the program. Good luck tomorrow, Mao! | |

How sad There's just so much pressure... I feel bad for her that she still had to talk with the media after that... | |

| Reading that article made me sad Mao-chan is under so much pressure... It is not easy for a 17 years old girl being 'Mao Asada'... I really hope she can find the way to overcome her mental struggle. Rafael please help her! Ganbatte Mao-chan You are beautiful skater

| Poor Mao... I agree with you Yumei, she has so much pressure on her for a 17 years old girl. Not only she has to be proud of her but she know that a lot of people are expecting a lot from her... that's should be so difficult to deal with! Please Mao, skate for yourself tomorrow and everything will go well ! | |

| Looks like the second deduction was for time violation. I thought Mao fell twice for a second, good thing that was not the case Mao's 3-3 got the GoE's ranging from +2 to -2. The judges seem to be somewhat confused. I haven't seen the program yet, so I wonder what this is all about... Great GoE's for spins and steps, and for jumps with no mistakes Spiral sequence finally lvl4! Very good PCS so early in the season | |
