I love Mao's black dress. Some time ago I saw Lady of the Camellias, the ballet set to music by Chopin. In the pas de deux that is set to Ballade no.1 Op.23 the ballerina starts dancing in the black dress similar to the one Mao is wearing at the Nagoya Festival, then sheds it to dance in a white gown similar to the one Mao was skating in all the previous exhibitions.

ETA: Miki looks lovely, I loved the way she held the landing on that 3T.

Nobu's costume still kills me. Fierce!

I totally LOVE Mao's costume. Better than the white one. It says that TAT is the one who designed !!! Great job TAT ! The choreo was designed to look like a Ballerina practising her dance so it's perfect. I love the tutu part.

I 'm worried about Dai's condition. He missed his jumps. I hope he gets better by worlds...

WOW i love the black costume, is so elegant,the part in the hands with white is beautifull, but i love withe dress as well, which one would you like she wears at the worlds exibition?.

well I really like both dresses therfor I really don't care which one she picks since they are both gourges... but I would say it would depend on the lightening if dark I would prefer her wearing the white dress but if it isn't I would prefer her wearing the black....

I hope that someone soon will download mao whole exhibition, I would really like to see ballade performed in her new dress

This season, Miki looks very comfortable in her own skin. She always struck me as a bit insecure (which is part of her charm). She looks quite radiant!

For some reason, Mao's dress reminds me of minnie mouse

I don't know why, but it just does. This dress is a more cute version of Mao, while the white one is a more mature version of Mao.

I agree.

I love both dresses, actually. And I agree with those who said the black one is probably better for brighter lighting and the white better for normal exhibition lighting. It will be interesting to see the performance with the black dress and compare...

OMG, that's EXACTLY what I thought of too when I first saw Mao's EX!! TOTALLY reminded of the "Lady of the Camellias" ballet. Perhaps TAT has seen it too?

I totally was not expecting a new costume, and I really like it! I think this is the first TAT-designed costume that I have really liked! I love tulle...I'm such a ballet fan-girl... But my first thought on seeing this was, "Sailor Mao!"

Man, our Mao is certainly a busy girl, isn't she?! So much excitement in one day!

@ bibi - it's not clear why everyone is laughing--it must be something that someone said before that. Perhaps Dai said something funny, as he's sitting right next to Mao!
Mao says, "this is the first time I'm performing this year, so I was a little worried about how it would go, but I was able to end the performance well, so I thought it was a good start to the year."

Can't wait to see the full performances!

It's quite ironic, but the earliest full performance clip of Mao skating to Ballade in her new dress might actually be from SoI Japan (should she keep it) which will take place in Japan today and tomorrow and will make it on air (Jan. 16th) before both the Nagoya Festival and the Japan Super Challenge.

I LOVE that new dress- it`s just soo adorable! The fact that Tat gifted Mao that dress makes it even better

Mao`s 3F and 2A`s are looking better and better! There`s so much height and it seems like she`s using her toepick on the takeoff more to give the 3F an extra lift. Yay for Mao! She`s been working hard!

The men`s costumes all made me go...
Yuzuru`s costume reminded me of one of those sweaters you wear to Christmas Ugly Sweater Parties lol...

She made a grammatical error when answering the first question about New Year's visit to a shrine. And she fluffed the name of shrine (Atsuta) when answering the second question. Dai-chan said what happened to you? and Mao said why, why I'm like this today.

In other videos, they laughed when Mao started to answer a question. Is it probably because they were expecting Mao to fluff again?
