| Chan has a 13-point lead over Dai! This is just too much. It's going to be almost impossible for anyone to overtake him in the LP. | |

| Artur Gachinski?? Seriously - who is he? 42.45 - TES! Even better than what Dai got?? I have a bad feeling about Nobu skating last... He is usually the one who crumbles under pressure -_- I hoped this worlds would have been better than what it was last season!!

I didn't see his program here at worlds yet but he is really good imo. He skates like Plushenko (his coach is also Mishin) and his jumps are just... brilliant. I think with a clean 4T-3T he deserved this score...

He'd get higher marks with a clean 4T-3T! (Chan did that jump magnificently btw) EDIT: He did a 4T-3T! - And got huge marks on it as well! I need to check some YT vids of this skater! Oda is next!

He won bronze at last year's Jr. Worlds. As for his TES, he did land a quad combo. Tono stepped out of his (rotated) quad, but was able to tack a 3-3 in the end so he's second. Good. IMO it's actually more beneficial for the men to have a quad in the SP because like Mao's 3A, it gives a nice TES boost over competitors with just a 3-3 as their combination. Like Tono demonstrated today (or PatC in previous competitions) it *is* possible to recover and salvage some points with it too even if the quad itself was botched in some manner...as long as it was rotated. Men SP ProtocolAll of Dai's spins were level 3 + edge call on his flip meant no +GoE for his combo. PatC's SLSS was deemed level 4. KNEW IT!

| This is a love-fest for Chan...I mean he was great, but those GOE are simply vomit inducing. Besides his 4T-3T, neither of his elements deserved those GOE. I'm so sorry for Kozu that he had to skate after Patrick, it was like Mao skating after 150 points - Yuna at the Olys. No doubt Chan deserved first place today but not 13 points over Dai. This is wrong and it makes the competition less exciting. Arthur from Russia landed the 4T-3T cleanly and I'm ok with his placement. I would have Dai second and Oda third though, but Oda was sooo sweet when he saw his placement that he won me over | |

| Go, Nobu! That's a nice score, considering he had a step-out. His score would be closer to P-Chan if he landed the combo as beautifully as he did in practice. Hopefully his high placement will give him more confidence in himself. | |

| I've always felt uneasy about Nobu's SP steps....I was hoping it would get better by now but, well I suppose that was the best he can manage. Fortunately the judges didn't take away much scores from him than I thought... Pattie performed the best tonight and I think he deserves to be way up higher than the rest, but like someone else mentioned...Dai is still a better skater and artist for me. When his jumps are really working, they're higher and lighter than Chan's, and Dai's pros are simply much more pleasurable to watch (even with a few mistakes). But I do think Chan's FP is a pretty good pro, and I surely prefer it more than his SP, so if he can skate clean again tomorrow, I don't think anyone would be complaining about his winning...although the arguments concerning his PCS will go on, I guess. I did imagine that there sometime in the near future, there will come a time when guys won't be able to win without a quad in their SPs. I just never imagined that it would be Pattie who would be the epoch maker for the golden era of quads...can't help feeling sorry for Joubert. This season's rule changes were supposed to make skaters like him reach for gold, but now he's too old or whatever, and is missing all the glory. Best of luck to all the guys except for Pattie tomorrow! It's obvious that Pattie does not need any luck to win. He's even going to be better at presentation with his FP since he's been skating that pro for how long now??? I guess this is one of those competitions where some skater gets enormous scores from the start so unless you're his or her fan, the FP won't be as exciting as you'd wished it would be... | |

It doesn't help he skates dead first out of the final flight tomorrow, which just makes things so much more anticlimactic. | FS is becoming a show rather than a sport. To try to keep the audience's interest, they constantly raise scores to the point where a skater will probably reach 100 in the SP soon. Now imagine a guy getting in the SP as much as many get on the LP? Now I'm really pessimistic about ladies. From what we've seen today, Yuna will skate clean, get crazy GOEs and PCs and win it easily, even if Mao or Miki are clean too and with higher BVs. Who wants to bet?

| I don't know. Am I the only one who feels that the GOEs Patrick received for his jumps aren't as off as people are complaining about? I mean they were fantastic, spot on jumps. They had phenomenal flow and great ice coverage if not with the height that other certain male skaters at their best can accomplish. Yeah, I'm a bit 'meh' about the interpretation and choreography scores, but his skating skill scores are well deserved. I'd say he's right up there with Jeremy and Taka in that aspect (the problem I have is that those two certain men don't get the skating skill scores they deserve as consistently as they should, particularly Taka who's PCS is all over the place). He skated with speed and deep edges, a bit on the boring side (although being a sucker for great edge work, I was all during his footwork sequence), but overall he was on today! | |

I can't speak for everyone, but at least for me it's the GOEs in comparison to the rest of the competition that can be a bit and this isn't just limited to PatC. Part of this is due to how COP is designed - in *theory* it's supposed to be an absolute, individual assessment and the GOEs (and PCS) are not relative to the other skaters but based on whether the skater (pair) in question can satisfy the checklist of what the judges are effectively looking for. I think this is where a lot of problems occur as IMO the judges simply aren't capable of an absolute assessment for so many skaters and the checklist method of handing out GOEs create a slew of discrepancies. This is probably me being influenced by 6.0 too much but (for example) if skater A receives a +1 on their combination spin, I tend to ponder about how skater B should be receiving a +2 instead on theirs and the like. If we just go through with the actual COP scoring of "ticking the boxes" then PatC's GOEs today does make sense since he did satisfy what's stated on the guidelines - it's just that more often that not the same can't be said for the rest of the field and quite often what's judged as a +2 or +3 might actually be less impressive than the very same element by a different skater that received a +1. I hope this makes sense. Of course, there's no guarantee a comparative system of handing out GOEs will be any better than the supposed individual method that COP currently has in place. That said, underappreciated skaters like Kozu might actually have an easier time receiving higher PCS too if the scoring was comparative - especially on the SS and TES mark. Maybe. Having better judges in general won't hurt too since 6.0, which was comparative, was not without its share of issues.(it might be fun if a group of us simulate COP judging for a particular event like the judging games on FSU but also test out alternative ways of scoring GOE/PCS and see if it will or will not have any impact on the overall scores+placements)
