For me, Liza was the best! Adelina didn't recieve an edge call on her 3Lz, which is good for her, but her combo was marked <. (3Lz-3T<). She had the best spins though

I'm personally rooting for Adelina but the gold is really between her and Liza; good luck to both in the FS. Yep!

Liza would have been in first had she maximized her spins and received a level 3 on her SLSS. The importance of spins and steps this season have been emphasized repeatedly as this season's scoring trend, so I don't see how this is a problem either. It's a choreographic decision, maybe, but the way Liza's spins are being set up in the SP is simply not doing her any favors (she's utilizing the Biellmann in her combination spin, for example, instead of using it as an easy level feature for the layback). It just goes to show how costly not getting the levels on the other elements can be, because Adelina's SP still had the higher base value even with an URed 3T.

As for the rest of the girls - I'm just hoping the Japanese girls can hang in there to get the maximum JGP spots for next season, especially since both Risa and Yuki's UR tendencies are coming into full circle this competition (I'm glad to see Miyabi doing quite well though). Sweatdrop Both Agnes and Christina are a bit iffy when it comes to the FS so I won't be surprised at all if Polina S can sneak onto the podium for a Russian sweep by the end of the day. Idea

The top three russian girls have very similar body shapes and stroking styles, though Adelina has the best line. There's just something about the set of her shoulders that the other two don't have yet, this "look at me, I'm here and you won't believe what I can do!" attitude. Very pretty back and GORGEOUS charlotte!!! affraid I'm a bit scared of their very long legs though... And they all still have little girls' hips (as compared to someone like Agnes Zawadzki...). I do hope their strong jumping technique will carry them through puberty without too much hassle (though Polina's is a bit weaker I think). If they can manage to grow curves without loosing their jumps, Mao will have her work cut out for her. But that's something she thrives on I think. Rockstar

Liza's team looks bewildered at the scores, but looking at the protocols, you can see she just didn't hit the levels. Plus, Adelina's UR is not as costly as it would have been last year... She lost a little more than 2 points to Liza on it, which she easily made up for on the spins and steps.

Why is Liza's steps sequence only a lvl2? In a strong competition like this one, her choreographer should have made sure she would get as many points as she could... Weird, especially since it doesn't look that difficult to achieve at that level... 12 of the top 15 girls received a level 3. She did receive nice GOE for it though.

She's doing it in her combination spin because she only does biellman with her left leg up so it's a biellman in a back spin (and a layback is a forward spin).
I'm rooting for the russians and japanese! Let's go Very Happy

Liza got level 2 on her steps all the season(including nationals). I'm surprised, as her steps look intricate, and the fact that she gets the best GOE means she should have no problem in getting a level 3. The same goes with her spins. It's frustrating, her team simply doesn't maximize her scoring potential! She and her team looked so Neutral in the K&C. There's simply no justification, they need to work in this next season. Liza is my favorite from the russian babies, but I've got a soft spot for Adelina. She is such a beautiful skater but she almost always looks so pale, scared, like the pressure in the world is on her shoulders(but yesterday she smiled Smile ). She is too young to feel this amount of pressure. I read over fsu about her obsession with puberty, how she tries not to eat to much, I hope she doesn't get an eating disorder Sad Yesterday, seeing her looking so relieved after she skated, I got chills. She's just a kid. Liza on the other hand, looks more feisty! She is the underdog, and that's ideal at this age. She is not the one to beat yet(on junior stage), and that, I believe, helps her a lot.

Congrats to Adelina, Liza and Agnes! And I'm so happy Risa hung in there to take 5th with a LOT less URs than in the Quali!! Sad for Miyabi though... did they do enough to win a lot of spots on the JGP next year? 5 and 8 is 13 and would get them 3 spots at next Worlds in Seniors, but what about Juniors?

ETA: Dear god... looking at the protocols, Adelina's FS is very frontloaded! She has 5 jumping passes in a row and only 2 after the halfway mark! I do hope it's a stamina issue she will deal with before she turns senior because it could have a lot of repercussions on her placements.

This time I felt Liza was a little over-scored, especially after seeing her program: no 3-3(she had a tight landing on the 3Lz), thight 3Lz, barely hang on on the 3F(but she held her free leg off the ice), 2A-3T,a little bubble on the 3T, gorgeous 3L, 2S-2T-2L< and again, gorgeous 2A. Only 5 triples, and these not completely clean. Adelina on the other hand had 6 clean, superb triples, and a 3F with a step-out. She also had a small problem on a Layback Spin. They were virtually tied on the PCS(Liza got higher marks on Transition, Ch, Interpretation). And yet, there were only 5 points between them. Adelina must rethink her programs by next season, they are a bit empty. And she needs to stop frontloading her jumps! But to her credit, it was her first season, and this strategy helped her consistency. She's young and has enough time to "play" with her jump content. She looked so relieved at the end, once again, I feel sorry for the pressure this kid is destined to have on her shoulders. Next season I want to see her more grown up as a performer! But Liza is like a tiger! Had she skated the LP from Jr nationals, she would have been the champion, for sure. The way she attacks her program is amazing for a 13 year old! She got the audience behind her in the Step seq, they were all clapping with the music and she got so many cheers at the end, it was lovely! I bet she was a little disappointed with her mistakes, but the cheers were so laud, that she gave the audience a big big smile! Lovely (still, 110 was too much Very Happy )

Yep, it's the same with the Juniors! cat Both the Japanese ladies and men were able to secure the maximum berths for next season's JGP as well - thank goodness. Japanese Juniors is going to be packed next season with the Kansai novice girls moving up. Yep!

I'm also relieved that Risa had less URs this time around. Yuki, however, had a grand total of 4 URs and 2 DGs in the FS. Yikes. Unconscious Miyabi did OK I think, considering she only had 5 successful triples. Her scores will only improve once she puts the flip back and tweak her spin levels. Congrats to the medalists - Adelina looked really nervous today for the first half of the program, but things got better after the faulty layback. Her footwork continues to be truly impressive. With five triples there was just no way Liza would be able to catch up, but she gave it her all nevertheless. Her spin levels and average spin GoE were a vast improvement from yesterday, at least. Agnes finally had a visibly clean skate too so kudos to her. Polina S...had a rough skate to say the least. Sweatdrop

The men were underwhelming for the most part. Keiji was the only real skater in the final group to bring it (well, I guess Rogozine too) but the rest more or less crashed and burned including Dmitriev Jr. and Keegan who can never seem to get it together in the FS. Kento's in a rut unless something extraordinary happens during the off-season. Lips sealed

but the way Liza's spins are being set up in the SP is simply not doing her any favors (she's utilizing the Biellmann in her combination spin, for example, instead of using it as an easy level feature for the layback).
She's doing it in her combination spin because she only does biellman with her left leg up so it's a biellman in a back spin (and a layback is a forward spin).
I'm rooting for the russians and japanese! Let's go Very Happy
Ooh, I didn't know about that. Thanks for telling me bibi. Worship

Congrats to Adelina and Liza!

On a side note, I feel Adelina kinda flutzes. However, she gets full credit on them sometimes, so I'm not sure. I like her skating but I can't help feeling it's a bit unfair if she's not called consistently if she does indeed flutz.

True. From the replays, it looked like a true lutz in the SP, though on a very shallow outside edge... For the LP, I can't find a video with replays, but in real time, both lutzes kinda look like flutzes to me. Then again, I was convinced the one in the short was a flutz too before watching the replay 3 times.

She really flutzes, well judges are pretended not to see it. But that's is really unfair, especially then at JGPF Liza got an edge call at her super clean flip. Rolling Eyes

To be honest, I couldn't see a difference between her lutz and the one Mao did at 4CC. It seems that they both kinda switch to the inside edge at the last minute but Mao got called and she didn't. I feel that Mirai's lutz is better but she doesn't get the GOE that Adelina has been getting, which puzzles me.

I believe Adelina has a borderline edge on her Lutz, and to be fair, Mao has a clear inside edge before she takes off. Adelina's second Lutz in the LP looked ok to me. The technical specialist at this competition was pretty strict(look at the protocol, so many UR and edge calls!) and Adelina got some "e" this season, but not always, so I believe she was given the benefit of the doubt. If she flutzes indeed, it's not a severe flutz like Mao's. I usually feel Adelina is overscored, but not here, she barely beat Liza by 5 points in the Lp, when Liza had many mistakes and only 5 triples, and they were tied in the PCS, which is fair.
But, since I'm no technical specialist, you guys may be right, and she is favored by the judges, but they are not doing her any good! Look at Mao, the fact that she wasn't penalized for her flutz in her junior career made it much more harder to correct now. Maybe if the rules were the same back then, her coaches would have taken care of the matter sooner and who knows, she would be doing correct 3Lz today. I'm sure she will eventually succeed in correcting her edge, she is Mao, but the flutz is costing her a lot for now

Liza's "e" on her flip in the JGPF was outrageous though
