| Woohoo, go Mirai!!! She's my favourite US skater, along with Sasha Cohen. I knew she would make a comeback this season, after her growth spurt from last year and everything | |

| Here's the link for Mirai's SP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKCaW4muvDgI just realised that I have this channel (CCTV 5) on satellite! Sorry for sounding so excited but this could be the first time I get to watch figure-skating on a proper television set, as opposed to my tiny computer screen And Mirai has such speed across the ice! My only criticism would be that her movements are too fast. Her hand and arm movements all become a blur after a while. It would be nice if she could hold some of those positions for just slightly longer, so the audience can admire how beautiful her positions are.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqKb_A4CX6I I LOVE this program. Have you seen her LP? My favorite steps of the season- so much energy, passion, and emotion! Other than Mao, Akiko is my favorite Japanese lady. I really love Miki, but there's something about Akiko's personality on the ice that I absolutely adore. She emotes so well (without over doing it), and she looks like she loves what she's doing. With all she's been through, it just makes her story even more compelling for me. I think Mao and Miki are sure bets for the Olys, but nothing would please me more than to have Akiko go instead of Fumie or Yukari. GO AKIKO!!! I also love love LOVE Mirai Nagasu. She's always been my favorite US lady, and unlike some of her peers (ahem... Caroline), she's never sacrificed great skating skills for beautiful line, posture, positions, and stretch. If she keeps rotating those jumps, she'll be going to Vancouver, and I couldn't be happier! Joannie had a rough start, but that program has loads of potential, imho. Since I read several practice reports that said her jumps in practice looked great, I think this was just a brain fart, so to speak. I really think she's going to come back tomorrow and give a great performance. Joannie just needs to get these nerves out now, and not have them in Vancouver.

Well, everything I know about it has been gathered by reading the forums and a few articles that were translated a while ago, but they do not seem to be available anymore. Anyone who has an article about this, feel free to share it, because I just want to provide factual information. Here's what I know: Akiko started off as a promising young junior skater, but then she struggled with anorexia for years. It was a very serious illness with her, and she has been very brave sharing her battle with the public. She eventually returned to competitive skating, and has never looked better. I just appreciate the fact that she has overcome such a difficult battle in her life to make this sort of come back. As other skaters who have been anorexic can tell you (like Jenny Kirk said in her blog), many have to quit skating all together to be well again. ETA: It's on her wikipedia page, too, but the article that is linked as the source is dead now as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akiko_Suzuki#cite_note-0
