| What music would you like to see Mao skate to in the future? Personally, I'm not sure how video game music is received, but I think "To Zanarkand" from Final fantasy 10 would be perfect for Mao. I'd also love to see her skate to Joe Hiraishi music. If she wants to skate to dark music, maybe Moonlight sonata from Beethoven. I think it could be be powerful while staying true to Mao's soft, light skating. There's also a song named Dante's prayer from Lorena Mckennit, maybe for an ex.
I think it would be really nice if Nobuyuki Tsuji (a very talented blind pianist) recorded something for her. (I think he once said in an interview that he likes Mao) | |

| I actually made a poll topic for this question a few months ago. The moderators moved it under the "What do you think Mao should do for the Olympic season?" topic. I went into a lot of detail on all the songs I'd like her to do on there, and I don't really feel like doing it all over again! Although there are a few that have come to my mind since then. One is "Reach" by Gloria Estafan. It's a pretty song, and it's perfect for anyone striving for their dream. I can't remember what any of the other ones are right now, but someone made a video on YT with her skating to the princess Lea theme, and I thought it was really pretty too. | |

| I think there are music threads all over the site, but this has definitely been something on my mind recently, so I thought I'd post some new ideas. As Star85 and I have discussed over multiple threads, I'd love to see Mao skate to "Swan Lake." I'd also love to see Mao skate to "Schindler's List" and "Liebestraum," but these are kind of cliched for use as skating songs, so here are some other ideas: 1) dangerous_angel_face, I agree, I definitely would love to see Mao skate to some Joe Hisaishi songs. And it would be extra nice for the fans in Japan because he's a Japanese composer (same goes for if she skated to a Ryuichi Sakamoto song, which clovera has suggested). This fan vid with Mao skating to Ashitaka And San is very nice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qQVMF5cVHg2) But I think I like "Ashitaka Sekki" better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSquUSrbnm8I know I've also seen a fan vid with "Howl's Moving Castle" - also very nice. "To Zankerland" is very pretty too...reminds me of the theme from "The Piano" a bit. I've always really liked "Suteki da ne" from Final Fantasy X, but that would have to be an EX number. (And I love "Eyes on Me" from FF VIII too.) If Mao insists on trying "challenging" music:1) I'd be really curious to see what she, or anyone, really, could do with Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 II. Allegretto. That's got to be one of my top 2 all-time classical favorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdfNTO_o-3k2) And Ravel's "Ondine" from "Gaspard de la Nuit"--This would be hard to skate to, but I think only Mao could possibly capture the haunting, delicate beauty of this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVL6oS30wFcRandom other songs 1) A jazzy version of "My Favorite Things" by the Carpenters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxzGvq2ttuI2) "Nyah" from the movie "Mission: Impossible II" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AISphWueZdI-this is a really nice soulful flamenco piece. I'd love to see anyone skate to this. 3) Some cut from the Ballet dream sequence in the musical "Oklahoma": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnzXGuqT0lw-this has both the very happy, bright Broadway side and a dark section, which could make for an interesting long program. (Yes, clearly I associate Mao with Rodgers & Hammerstein, don't I? ) | |

| I'd like to see Mao skating to non classic music. What I noticed japanese skaters are very flowing, like Dais, and I think some modern music, like techno swan or someting from matrix will be great for them! I wish Mao will skate to this music - Escala - clubbed to death https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SGMsSJlXZw | |

| Ok I have a new one: I would like to see Mao skate to Shen and Zhao's new SP music, "Who Wants to Live Forever" by Queen. The arrangement is PERFECT for figure skating! It's one of those few songs that when skated to well, and cleanly, help give you (or me anyway) that "yes, YES, YES! Now this is why I watch figure skating!" feeling.
Did Shen and Zhao skate that much better than the Germans at the GPF SP? It's hard to say, but Shen and Zhao always choose great music, and it helps give their program a little something extra. I'm not trying to say that their music is the reason they won the SP, but it definitely didn't hurt.
Anyway, I'm getting a little off track here. I guess I did want to rave a little about Shen and Zhao's program a little bit, but I really do think it would be a great song for Mao too!
Plus, I LOVE Queen! lol | |
