karivian, I merged your topic with this one, because it contained spilers. I hope you don't mind.
Actually, I think the result at CoC is engouraging for Mao. Even though YuNa skated perfectly except for 3Lz, their scores were close and Mao even got a bit better PCS, even though her program had no 3A, no 3-3, the 2A2L2L got -GoE and her lutz got less points because of the wrong edge take-off.
This should give Mao confidence and show her where she can gain points.
Jumps aside, I think she could gain some extra points easily if only she held her spins and spirals a bit longer. She can do that - she does it in exhibitions, just in the programs she has not enough time scheduled to hold the spins long enough to get bonus GoE's.
I think Mao's layback improved greatly - it's fast, well centered and she started to turn her leg out. But, because she does not manage to hold positions long enough, it's usually lvl1 with no + GoE.
Meanwhile YuNa, even though she had problems with the layback (particularly Biellman) in the SP got high GoEs, because she held the positions longer.
I think it's a lesson for Mao's coaches and choreographers. Mao has the potential to score very high GoE's on steps (she already does), spirals and spins, and they should milk this potential for all it's worth.
Back to CoC: congratulations to all the medalists.
I look forward to D/S going against V/M in the finals (provided some major difficulties, both of the teams should get in easily).
Poor Carolina indeed.
She seems to be very fragile mentally in competitions...
Great job from Caroline!
I can't see how her 3F of 3-3 combo was not downgraded, it was more than 1/4 short of full rotation. The technical specialists can be really harsh one second, then turn blind the next and it's really confusing.
I haven't watched Pairs and Men yet.
