Oh my, it would be the darkest thing in her life, if she really loses her spot! But if she skates like the events before, it really can happen! Im not a fan of her, but that would be very sad, cause she is 2-time european champion!

I wonder if they actually would not send Carolina to the Olympics if she doesn't place at Europeans?! She has been in a really long slump, but everyone knows that she can bring it, and if she manages to come out of her slump, she could even be a medal contender. I don't think I've ever even seen any of the other girls from Italy skate. I'm not a fan of Carolina, but she is still one of the top skaters in the world, and they olympics wouldn't be the same if any of those skaters were missing.

The mens competition will be the most fierce, and exciting. I's anyones best guess who will win, or even what order the medalists will be in!

It really sucks that we can't watch this competition for the second year in a row now here

I think the Italian Federation will send Valentina to Vancouver if she places above Caro again. And IMHO she should make the team. I think that sending a struggling skater would not be beneficial to either the skater's federation or the skater herself/himself. I don't think there's anybody who would like to be remembered as a skater who bombed at Olympics... Especially in case when a more consistent skater was left home. Miki is still bashed for her Torino performance and being sent over Yukari, even though Miki was actually the first qualifier (according to the qualification process established by JSF for the Torino Olympics) and redeemed herself by winning 2 world medals. Some pumpkin heads just won't let things go.

Furthermore, I don't think Caro is done yet. She is struggling right now because she has changed coaches recently and is working on improving her jumping technique, but she's relatively injury-free and still young... I think she will not retire after Vancouver and will have her chance to win some medals yet.

(Of course, my point will be moot if Caro skates well and places higher than Valentina this time.)

I just googled the Italian nationals. I didn't know Valentina creamed Carolina like that there. I guess I just assumed Carolina won, as usual. So yeah, if she places higher than Carolina at Europeans, they should send her instead. Cause Italy only gets to send only one female skater. I just found that out too.
