Japan Open 2010

According to this article, Joannie says she'll compete at Japan Open this year. Now we know there will be a Japan Open!

Does anyone know when it will take place and who the other competitors are?

I don't think an official announcement has been made yet anywhere, so it looks like we'll just have to wait.

Besides money, Joannie seems like Japan after her visit late months. Hope Japan Open will inspire her path again. I don't like her mascular
body when she skates but Joannie is really nice in personality.

Japan Open is confirmed to take place this year!



Team North America is Joannie, Jeffrey and Adam. Maybe Mirai will be the other lady.

I take this as a good indicator that Marai's injury is not that bad (fingers crossed!)

The most recent article in Japan on Mao was in Sankei Newspapers http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20100826-00000093-san-spo.

The article reports mostly about her jump trainings with Nagakubo. But for some reason, the only things written in it are stuff which have already been reported by various sport newspapers around the beginning of this month; that she's been working on her jumps from singles to fix them, so to be able to jump once again like she used to when she was younger, etc. It also says just as it's been reported before already, that she still hasn't practiced her programs through yet. She is still working on only her jumps.

But when you think about it, it's quite natural...Nagakubo is her jumping coach. But he'll soon be busy attending to Akiko and won't be able to look after Mao that much (that's what I read in some other article some time ago). So, it's only natural to guess that Mao is working on her jumps while she can spend time with Nagakubo, and will move on to practicing her pros after he's gone for Akiko.

When I first read this Sankei article, I thought it was very awkward that they were writing about things which seemed like everything we already knew. But Sankei Newspaper is not a sports paper. It's not the most popular paper in Japan, but one of the major ones. Basically, they should not write articles as irresponsibly as sports papers and tabloids. The other thing is, that this article has the reporter's name on it. I think this usually happens when the reporter got the info himself and wrote the article.

So the most surprising thing is...this article also says that Nagakubo does have that two 3A & two 3-3 LP prepared for Mao next season. It also says clearly that she will also include a 3A & 3-3 in her SP.

I am thinking maybe that this article came out so late, because the writer wanted to confirm the contents of her pros for next season before it was printed. This is just a speculation though.

Lastly, the one thing new (at least for me) written in this article is that Nagakubo says Mao's 3As are improving alot.

I think we'll be getting more news on her before Japan Open...let's wait.

Oh no! I was hoping that the fact Mirai was still going to be there meant that her injury must not have been that serious. Hopefully it still isn't that serious, and they she is just skipping Japan Open to be on the safe side, until she knows for sure that her injury is better, and it's safer to compete.

i´ll be happy to see her skating soon even if she declines to skate in Japan open at the end and skates in other place. Than would mean she is fine.
