| Oooh that is exciting!! I think this means we might get to see one of Mao's new competitive programs in less than 6 months!! EXCITED!! I guess the first GP event is 2 weeks after Japan Open though - I wonder how the timing will affect who participates in JO... | |

| Im always gonna be happy to see Mao skating but how can they have so many extra competitions for such an important season??? I really hope it doesn't affect the skaters ... I wonder how the GP series will be like too Maybe no Mao for TEB? | |

| I am in full support of Mao foregoing GPS competitions this season in order to preserve stamina and do extra training for the Olympics.
However, if she does decide to participate in those competitions, I am only too happy to watch her lovely skating!

| Actually, I think this is a very good idea - for Mao to be able to test her programs in a competition *early* in the season. In the 08-09 season - I think she and TAT thought her programs were in very good shape before TEB, but it was only at TEB at she discovered some issues. I think the sooner Mao starts competing, the sooner she can figure out what she needs to work on, and then she'll have more time to work on it. @ chineseteacup I'm pretty sure Mao is going to participate in GPS, and I think she should (to get competition experience with her new programs). The Final is in Tokyo, and I'm sure the JSF and the Japanese people fully expect her to be there. Though I'd be totally okay with Mao not worrying about winning, but just using the GPS to get her programs solid, polished and making them her own. | |

| BIBI, thank you for the link. I think Dreams On Ice will be ahead of Japan Open, as it is scheduled for June. | |

| Interesting. I do think it'll help in the long run, though. Masquerade was completed really late, and I think it's definitely better to get the kinks out early before the season actually starts, akin to Fantasia for Violin. I'm secretly hoping that Mao might include a tano on a triple jump for next season, like the triple toeloop, although the judges are so inconsistent in assigning GoE's it probably isn't going to warrant that big of a +, if at all. (and I'm very curious to as what will happen in the ISU Congress this year, especially with all the buzz about eliminating CD and reinstating the qualifying round for singles' skating) | |

Whereas I'm more like Cousin Toby from the countryside who just gawks at the pretties floating over the ice where can I get this inside information on what the ISU is planning?

I think a good number of us started off with very little knowledge of the sport and just absorbed information like a sponge as time passed (which isn't very hard IMO since we all love skating). FSU widened my knowledge of the sport, and there is an excellent "making sense of CoP" website in Japanese I visit to this very day... For anyone who can read Japanese: www.geocities.jp/judging_system/index.html And then there are the posters who also skate in real life like bibi, who will naturally understand what's going on in FS.

where can I get this inside information on what the ISU is planning? I know exactly how you feel! I am trying to study up on the ISU system, but there is always so much more to learn @__@ Thankfully though, everyone on this forum is very kind and acceptable of my lack of using GoE or PCS technical information to back up my Mao supporting! must...learn...more...CoP info... Good luck! Hopefully we can grow as a forum and learn well together!!!!

| I worry about a lot of games in which Mao participates because it will be a burden to her. On the other hand, I am glad of can see a lot of performance of Mao. I'm in a dilemma.... By the way, Jeffrey battle said in his official web site he will come in Japan Open!! | |

Thank you!!! So is Carnival on Ice the gala to the Japan Open? Yes, but the Gala participants are usually not based on the results of the competition and there usually a few guest skaters who do not compete, but skate in the Gala anyway! - MikiAndoFan#1 wrote:

I hope so! Looks like the last spot went to Yukari Nakano. (At least that's what I've read on 2ch) No Nobu neither (ungrammatical, but alliteration, so yay!). Maybe they will go back to Nikolai in October..? Well, more practice and less media related harassment is good. I think I'll get ulcers waiting for the new programs, though!

| What's the format for Japan Open? Is it going to be like regular competition where they have to perform an SP and FS? | |

I think some people skate the Short Program and others the Long.

I think some people skate the Short Program and others the Long. That was at Campbells and International Counter Challenge. At Japan Open everyone skates just their long program. SO we'll get to see Mao's "Bells of Moscow".
