Hanyu- His 1st 4S always left me with a problem with the current scoring system. It seems like it wasn't really ready at the beginning of the season (actually even to the mid-season), but his team put it in anyway because they knew he'd make the rotations even if he fell quite frequently in order to get the points. I have to disagree with this, since he landed it perfectly during the first competition of the season (Finlandia) and has always landed it very well in practices. All indications suggest he is solid on the jump but has struggled with it in competition. I know that this isn't what you meant to suggest, but the second sentence really bothers me. It seems extremely judgmental to me when people psychologize skaters by saying, "Ugh. He/she can't even do that element but still attempts it because he/she is a point grubber." First of all, you'll never land the jump if you don't try it. Second, it's impossible to know why a skater decides to attempt certain "tricks", and frankly, if his/her only goal is to get the points, then so what? Although I can understand that it seems unseemly, no one has ever explained to me why this is a problem if it's true. I'm not trying to criticize your post, btw. .
On an slightly note, I just laugh at the frequently mentioned accusation that Mao attempts her triple axel and purposely messes it up for "easy" points. Yes, it's so easy and so low risk (/sarcasm/). We can disagree, because my comment was not directed at Hanyu- I have no idea what his intentions are, but most skaters tend to just want to perform. However, I am fairly confident about how much number crunching Brian Orser and his team do regarding Hanyu's program, do you really think that the point that I brought up didn't come up in their conversations? I have a problem with rotations meaning more than landing a jump in the current system, there are also numerous other issues with the current system that allow points to be manipulated. Not that this is anyone's fault, some people are just much better at that, and the Orser team has had a history of being good at this. A lot of things are said about Mao, but that doesn't negate my comment. First of all, the power of the Korean netizens are undeniable. It's not just their sheer numbers, it's their persistence and stalking ability. Second of all, the situation between Hanyu and Mao is quite different. Hanyu actually gets quite a few points from a botched rotated quad, as many skaters do, there's not that much risk for men to attempt quads. Mao, on the other hand, can go down quite a bit in the rankings because of her 3A- the judges would never give her rotation credit if she falls (they don't give rotation credit even when she lands it). Anyway, just my beef with the system.

Elena ILINYKH / Nikita KATSALAPOV 174.38 (3/26 they announced to end partnership, I wonder if this is the reason they messed up on their Short Dance, guess they are retiring) Madison CHOCK / Evan BATES 167.59 Maia SHIBUTANI / Alex SHIBUTANI158.57 Very happy for the top 3! I'm so happy for Kaitlyn and Andrew, they were overshadowed by V/M for so long, and finally a world champ medal. Nathalie Pechalat looked very angry/ not happy during the medal ceremony...It seems like Fabian was trying to get her to smile more.

| P/B! I can't even...man I wanted gold for them after the disappointment in Sochi. I can't think of any other team who deserved a gold medal more then they do after their career. Faith is downright CRUEL with them. I love C/L but they are not better skaters than P/B and considering the difference... Only one thing can make up for it today | |

If P/B got 0.5 more points in their PCS, they would have won. I didn't even realize that the 4th place FD tonight won the Gold, that's so crazy. Apparently Nathalie seemed to have all her makeup removed on the podium because she smudged it all because of crying

Yea, I noticed that too... she seems very upset, didn't even crack a smile, i really loved their little prince program, so close so sad I didn't know Elena and Nikita were retiring, their dramatic swan lake was great to watch

| I/K are splitting up, apparently Nikita wants to skate with someone else (Victoria Sinistsina) and wants to train with Morozov. Apparently Elena recently found out which devastated her. Considering the ice cold body language between Elena and Morozov I am guessing they split up (it was obvious in Sochi) and that probably affected their training environment. What I don't get is why aren't both simply leaving Morozov? And why on earth would any skater want to skate with someone else when he has Elena? | |

I almost feel like they are doing that, using Mao as the scapegoat, to discourage other ladies to try the 3A ---- don't even try cause you aren't going to get credit unless it's perfect After watching the whole men's competition, you can really appreciate how hard the 3A is, only a handful of the men can execute it with consistency

I think I now better understand what your point was, and I completely agree. Thanks for clarifying !

| I'm going to bed because I'm too scared to watch. If Mao doesn't win, I hope I wake up in some alternate universe where humanity revolves around a goddess-cult worshiping Mao (only slightly kidding on the very last part) . | |
