Hey guys! I haven't been able to watch the competition live but I was refreshing from my phone as an insane on the street and praying for Mao to do well. Since I knew this was probably her last performance I felt very emotional and since I'm going through a very though time I have to say that Mao winning really made me feel happy and forget about everything else for a moment there. I don't care about the scores, ur calls or everything else. After having her Olympic dream completely crushed our dear Mao found her fire again and came back on the top in a way only she can do it. There is reason why they call her the comeback queen. Her career and overall results are inspiring, like the British eurosports guys said, a movie should be made based on her story. Whatever she decides to do with her life from now on, I hope it will make her happy. From now on she has nothing to prove. She showed the world how you must NEVER give up (her Sochi LP was the most recognized piece of figure skating around the world at these Olympics). I wish her all the best from my heart and after these Worlds I have no regrets for her - not even Sochi. Because there I think she went through hell and heaven and came back a much stronger person. I am not sure a gold medal would have done the same thing for her. I hope one day she'll be able to realize that while an Olympic Gold is a VERY big achievement, in the end it is just another competition and another medal. Her career is much more than that and Sarah Hughes, Tara Lipinsky, Oksana Baiul and even Adelina, with their Olympic gold, are nowhere near her and do not come even close to the level of recognition she gets Almost forgot: Mao got her first 10 today and there was no Japanese judge on the panel

I would love to see this. Didn't Mao win her previous titles without a coach? If so, this is a very personal gesture!
As much I hate to admit it, Mao putting that gold medal around Mr. Sato would be the perfect ending to her career that being said, I would support her no matter what her decision is. Thank you Mao for all the memories, the ups and the downs!!!! Congrats!!

I loove Mao's Rach and here it is with British commentators
Note that they said several time that her 3A was FLAWLESS, and even with the step out they EXPECTED a score very close to the world record
Yep, these two are the most fair commentators out there, and one of the few who questioned Caro's score. I agree with them, I'd have Anna on the podium and no way should Akiko be behind Caro. But whatever, it's over now, sooo happy for Mao.
has anyone been able to find the whole medal ceremony? I'm dying to see it, I can't believe Eurosport didn't show it.

Congratulations Mao!! . I was so nervous during her FS that I couldn't even enjoy her incredible skate...but I'm so happy!! She really deserved it, not only because she is an incredible skater but also because of all she's been through during her whole career. She's a three time world champion (that's awesome!), but more importantly, she has skated two programs that figure skating fans will keep rewatching for years. That's what matters...this is all about skating and performances after all, not numbers and silly < symbols.
I would have preferred not talking about judging and just enjoy Mao's victory but I can´t help it: how can you call yourself a judge or technical specialist or whatever you want to call yourself when you cannot even call a program in real time. I mean...how can TES score drop 11 points? that's silly. You cannot see it live and then you find all possible mistakes in slow-mo. Triple axel was first awarded 10 point something...and then it suddenly becomes underrotated...seriously? if that jump was so freaking amazing to earn more than 10 points why replaying it? To find a mistake no matter what, that's the only explanation. Why do we need judges or specialists if the only thing they can do is replaying jumps and clicking the < button? I know I'm harsh with this but this just seems so wrong.
Anyway. Has Mao said anything in particular in her interview? I hope she has some rest but I'm sooo selfish that I want her to continue, especially now that she still seems to be improving. She has achieved a level of sophistication I had never seen in her before

Guys, Mao leaves this WCH with 3 gold medals. Small gold for SP, small gold for LP and overall gold medal. I'm so freaking happy. Can't wait for tomorrow's gala. Thank you eurosport for broadcasting it!

I turned on my stream to see Mao just finished her routine.... she was not at all that happy like in Sochi... Was so nervous with her scores.. and I saw her TES slowly falling.... and there was still Yulia (I admit when I saw Yulia fall I was like secretly cheering for Mao... )
And on the slow mo... .WHAT ARE HIGH AND BEAUTIFUL 3A. and I felt she has won already...
And lovely to see medal ceremony using the stream on ISU, (thank you whoever who shared ) and I saw how Mao put her medal over her coach. She has won the World Champ 2 times before, (this being her third) and for her to dedicate this medal, it has been something great ( Which may be from the fact that she has not won in 4 years..)
And for Mao to finally be there, World Champion again, I think she is proud and happy. And through this whole oly cycle, Sato has been the constant in her life, with all the changes around her, the ups and downs of her career.
So I think it is such a beautiful sight, to see someone feeling so happy, and feel that sense of accomplishment, even as her wonderful competitive era draws to a close.
Thank you Mao. For the inspiration, determination and dedication. May everything that come your way be as beautiful, fruitful and bountiful, yet challenging, exciting and uplifting in your life.
Enjoy yourself and live wonderfully, Mao

Whelp. I went to bed early because I was too scared to watch, but I missed out. Forgive me Mao, for I did not believe strongly enough ! What a wonderful morning to wake up to. Although of course I am sad that the score was not higher, I am glad that the technical panel was incredibly strict so that there can never be a question of "home-cooking". Also, Mao got 10s!

You know, this is the first time Mao has won the short program at the World Championships--so another first for her, and another small medal to add to her collection.
After thinking about it more, I am p!ssed about the 3A being called, but she still won the free, deservedly, and will go down in history!
ETA Someone may have mentioned this before--but I haven't had a chance to check the thread, so sorry if I'm just repeating the same thoughts! But how fitting for Mao's final competition, if it is? Her first Worlds was at home in Japan, and she botched the 3F-3Lo combo in "Nocturne" in the short, costing her the gold. Now potentially her last Worlds was again at home, and she again used "Nocturne" in the SP, and she got a world record score! As the Japanese commentators said, she finally showed the home fans the "Nocturne" she wanted them to see!

I want her to know that for us, figure skating is wonderful because we had the privilege of watching her

Oh gosh I comletely forgotten about this! Talk about coming a full circle. I wish she were able to show them perfect Rachmaninov as well, but we did get that in Sochi, so it's ok. I just wish she could've made her dream true, skating both of her programs perfectly. But she was still beyond amazing, so I hope that when she'll look back she won't be too hard on herself or feel any regrets.

Now looking back at the season and Mao's accomplishment in it: First figure skater in a singles discipline, male or female, to win all 7 of the current events on the Grand Prix circuit (Grand slam)
Record holder for most Grand Prix Final titles won by a woman
First woman to land 8 triple jump in the long program
Holds the world record for the ladies' short program score (78.66).
add the World title, GPF title, skate America title, and NHK title
What a season and what a privilege to follow her outstanding career
