- I returned home!
Good evening, Nobunari here!
I returned from America last week. The training in July was dedicated mainly to the creation of new programs. Now that the programs are completed, I will practice and improve them day by day. My short program this year will be Liszt's Danse Macabre played by Maxim (Mrvica). My free will be skated to a Charlie Chaplin medley. My SP is very fast, so I'll have to do my best not to lose to the music! I really wanted to skate to the music of my free program, I think that the atmosphere of the music makes it really fun to skate. In August I plan to dedicate myself to strength training. This time it was short, but I'll update again soon! Until next time,
Nobunari I love the music choices! A year ago there was an interview with Morozov in a Russian newspaper. Among other things, they asked him about Nobunari's choreography. Nikolai said that he had had no time to choreograph for Nobunari last season, but that in the Olympic season he will give him new programs. He also said that Nobunari is too mature a skater for a style change, so he will not try to mold him into "Morozov" skater, like he did with Daisuke and Adam, but instead will try to find the music that suits Nobunari's style the best. For a year I wondered what music will Morozov pick for Nobunari. One of my biggest wishes (In a "I want it, but I don't think it will be chosen" way) was a medley of music from Charlie Chaplin movies (Charlie's Dance, The Kid, Charlie's Revue, The Gentleman Tramp... a lot of music perfect for a figure skating program). So I've been in a state of mild shock and overwhelming giddiness since I learned that this music was chosen! I love it, it has comical parts, and playful parts, and gentle, nostalgic parts, and grandiose parts... It's like Mao picked Polovtsian Dances. And Mrvica's arrangement of Liszt's Danse Macabre is "Totentanz"! Please don't laugh , but I often fantasized that if I had enough talent and started practice figure skating as a kid, and if I made it to the Olympics, then I would love to skate to "Totentanz". It has a lot of "oomph!". I heard this music for the first time in Kwantumleap's montage "Rings of Realism" about Olympics 2006 and I loved it. I can't wait to see the programs!

Believe it or not, you aren't the only one who likes it - Irina's Totentanz SP is easily my favorite SP of hers and had me hooked for quite some time. Tono's music choices are definitely my favorite out of the men's so far.

| Practice clips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCWzonTP8QInot much of the actual program can be seen, but parts of the music can be heard. Great 3A-3T-3L in the second part of the clip. - Figure skater Nobunari Oda skated in an open practice session today (24th August) at Kansai University Ice Arena in Osaka. He executed perfect 3-3-3 combination starting with a triple axel (3,5 revolutions) and skated with great appeal. He works on improving his muscular strength and challenge high-level combinations consisting of 3 jumps: "My jumps became light. I aim to put a 4-3-3 combination in my free skate".
In his SP practice to Maksim's arrangement of "Dance of Death" his jumps were perfect. He aims to achieve complete consistency of jumps in his free skate ("Chaplin Medley"). He will participate in a training camp in America before heading to France to participate in TEB. http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/sports/news/20090824-OYT1T00820.htmhttp://hochi.yomiuri.co.jp/sports/winter/news/20090824-OHT1T00278.htmhttp://hochi.yomiuri.co.jp/sports/winter/news/20090824-OHT1T00278.htmThose articles don't add anything new, so I'm putting the links here just for the photos. Nobu landing a jumpNobu during the press conferenceIn this article: http://www.sanspo.com/sports/news/090825/spm0908250503000-n1.htmthey say that Nobu plans to increase his body muscle mass by 40 percent and decrease his body fat percentage to 4%. All in order to achieve the "ultimate dream" - achieve a super body to land super jumps. Nobu says that he has confidence that he'll be able to land it in the GP series. He works on improving his muscle strength 3 hours a day. Currently his body fat level is 6%, Nobu plans to lower it to 4% by the time the season starts. http://www.sponichi.co.jp/olympic/news/2009/08/25/07.html"Nobunari Chaplin" Nobunari Oda (...) revealed his free program music, a medley of songs used by the king of comedy, Charlie Chaplin. The choreography includes pantomime and scenes from Chaplin movies. "The movies are really fun, but Charlie Chaplin went through many sufferings in life. He lost his mother to illness. I want to show not only the comical part we know from the movies, but also portray Charlie Chaplin as a human being.
