| Maooo!!! I want to give her and Mai a big hug! Poor girls, I really hope their Mom recovers! I was so sad to hear the news, and I have a lot of respect for Mao's decision. I hope the entire family stays strong, my wishes are with them. | |

| Hmm, mods, maybe we need to combine the posts here and from the GPF thread into one about Mao withdrawing from GPF due to mother's illness? Oh well, posting here for now. http://www.jiji.com/jc/c?g=spo_30&k=2011120900485According to this, Mao's management company announced that Mao's mother has an "internal disease" (not specified) that started getting worse this summer. She has been in and out of the hospital, but it suddenly got worse, so Mao went home. It also says that when the situation calms down, Mao will explain. I guess that means we'll get a press conference eventually. Oh Mao, little Mao, how were you able to put on such a brave face and smile so brightly for all of us? In that tiny body that moves so ethereally on ice, where does that strength come from? Like a beautiful butterfly carrying the weight of the world on its fragile, glimmering wings... This whole incident reminded me of something I read in the Mao books awhile back. See here: http://www.maoasadaforum.com/t445-some-tidbits-from-mao-asada-15-years-oldWhen Mao was little (maybe 6-7?) and her mom was hospitalized, this is what she wrote: - Quote :
- "To Mama. Get well soon, ok. So Mama is sick. I am always bringing home colds, so I'm sorry.
I don't know when you will die, Mama. But, I will try my best and continue skating, so, Mama, don't try so hard. Because I will definitely become an Olympic skater.
Mama is always thinking painful thoughts, and taking Mai and me to skating, so, from now on, I will be sure to skate properly. From Mao." This letter may be over 10 years old, but I bet the sentiment is still the same.

| If it's an internal disease it doesn't sound like a heart problem or stroke, which is what I was fearing, but it could still be serious. I've been praying for Mao's mother and the whole family, and I hope Mao will be able to give us good news soon. It's amazing how strong Mao is... if Mao got that from her mother (which seems like the case), her mother will be just fine. | |

| Batsuchan thank you so much for all the reports, article translations and the thorough explanation! just tuned in to channel 4 Nippon Terebi now and Miyane san reported that Mao's mother is in "危篤" state right now and unconscious, i am not so sure what exactly 危篤 means in exact english word, does it mean in commatose state? If it is, then it really is serious? God i hope i am wrong. They said that Mao's mom have studied all about figure skating for Mao and even massages Mao's legs and body every after her competition, for her daughter's conditioning. She looks so much like Mao, than Mai, they showed 2 pics of her in the afternoon magazine talk show. i teared up again hearing it all. They also reported that Mao is scheduled to land at 3pm jst, It's 2:45pm now here. I hope everything turns out well for Mao and her mother. Lets continue our prayers for them... | |

thank you swan . i have used all 3 translation software i have here on my pc and i got the same translation result as yours for the characters 危篤 ( read as kitoku) as what google translated = meaning in critical condition, i desparately texted my husband the word 危篤 and he scared me more as he said and texted me back that the word means 危ない = (dangerous) and ishikiganai = meaning unconscious, which was the same as what they said here on TV. So y'all could just imagine how very, very scared i am now for Mao's mother. I hope that it's not the case though, i pray hard that Ma's Mother will eventually recover. @zarinaballerina, here is one pic i took from my cp, awhile ago of Mao's Mother from our living room analog tv, i apologize if the pic is not clear and in bad quality. The clips was so fast and sudden and i hurried my shot, didn't even bother to wipe the cp cam's lenses, my apologies. I really sincerely hope Mao's Mom will overcome all these... and mao as well.

| purplemaze, thank you! Mao should have landed in tokyo by now, right? So no news, means that the media is respecting her privacy? I hope that's the case. The situation about Mao's mom does not look good | |

| Yup i guess mao has already landed by now. past 3 here about 3:49pm. And no news of her arrival so far on all tv channels. I don't know yet though for the evening news... we will see. eventhough i wanna see mao so much, i prefer it better and would be relieve if she exited Narita Airport silently and went straight to her Mom where she really longs to be at right now, without the media bothering her, i think that is the case here which is very proper and decent for the media, respecting Mao's current situation. | |

Batsuchan, after the shock and worry this morning when I read the news I remembered this post of yours back in the Mao @ 15 translations you posted way back. This must have been an ongoing condition. I hope she gets better. Our dear Mao is so strong and I hope she stays strong.

I am not religious either. If god really exists, then I really want to ask him why he's making Mao suffer even more ? Rachel Flatt has tweeted for Mao: http://twitter.com/rachaelflatt Very nice of her. Like someone said, I am also egoist, I am very disappointed that Mao had to withdraw from GPF. Why why ? I wanted to see her so badly in the middle of the podium. Now, I want Akiko to win so that she can cheer Mao up ! Do you guys think that with this happening, there are many things that makes sence now (it was also mentioned in TV): -Her mom's condition got worse after the Oly and that's when Mao started to loose weight. -She took her driving license because her mom couldn'd drive her to the rink -She insisted to move her training place from Moscow to Nagoya. Boy, Mao is such a strong lady ! It's terrible and sad but I am sure that our Mao will come back even more stronger . I love you MAO!

| I am so sad right now... Of course when I heard that Mao flew back to Japan, my first thought was, "What about the GPF?" But then I realized my selfishness and quickly erased that kind of thought. Mao is such a loving person, of course her family should be first! I send my prayers to the Asada family and I hope they can make it through this. - ddmm wrote:

This is the reason why I admire Mao so much!!! She's such a strong girl and this is why it also affects me when people say bad things about her. She doesn't make excuses at all! Finally things are becoming clearer... Mao, how can you smile for us when you're facing pressure from fans and critics alike? More importantly, how can you assure us that things are "fine" when your mother is in such a condition? This issue had been hidden for some time and Mao never made any mention of this, never made it as a convenient excuse, always saying that she must "work harder" to give good performances. Mao, you are such an angel... Maybe this GPF isn't meant for you and that's okay. Your decision already speaks a lot about your character.
