With the debut of Mao's "Swan Lake" LP at Japan Open, the new season has officially started!

Yes! That's a very good start for our dear Mao. And I love the dress because it's quite different from her past Tat costumes. No choker, no bra, no sleeves!!! I got my wish and she looked so pretty. Now videos please...

Yup. The reasons I love competitions and shows in Japan - great skaters and audiences! The reason I hate competitions and shows in Japan - waiting forever for the videos...

I like her dress too. I wonder who did the costuming this time around. It's simple and non-frilly so it doesn't distract from Mao's great physique. Mao does however have a history of changing her costume from JO so I have to be on the lookout for her next comp

I agree, actually I wonder if it was someone else who designed it because this is so different from usual TAT stuff. I can't wait for videos!!!

ballerinamao, Mao did 2A-2t instead of the 2A-3T, and my guess is she probably lost some levels on the spins, and everyone is saying that the program needs more milage. She'll need 2A-3T in the future and probably 3-3 as well, but for the first comp of the season this is amazing.

I'm actually really confused about this, because it seems like she did two CCoSP and one flying spin in one position (FCSp). I though there was some rule change that would allow this when I watched the program for the first time (I neglected memorizing the spin rules this off-season ) but now that I've checked, it seems that in this particular case the rules haven't changed:

combination, one a flying spin or a spin with flying entrance and one a spin
with only one position.
All Spins must be of a different character. Any Spin with the same character

occupy a spinning box).

Mao did CCoSP, CCoSP, FCSP <- 2 spins with the same abbreviation, the second one should get 0. I doubt team Mao would just plan a CoP mistake in... Maybe one of the spins was supposed to be a FCCoSP, but Mao missed the flying entry because of being tired...

There was no official announcement and I still haven't seen the protocols, so I'm just guessing!

I agree, they change the rules so many times, I lost count. I thought one spin must be a flying spin, one with change of foot and one with layback or camel variation. However what I'm seing at competitions is different, so i don't understand anything anymore. Way to kill the sport ISU with too many freaking rule changes. No wonder the sport is losing fans, when no one understands the scores. Sometimes I wonder if judges even know what they're doing, to be honest.

but she got edge call
sounds like he is her technique coach that she asked him the luz, then told him she made mistake in spin then asked his opinion about the scores.

As someone reported earlier based on a tweet, the article says Mao's SP for this season is to "I got rhythm".

I so much love Merry Poppins program. I'm sure her SP will be a lovely one too. I'm really looking forward to it.

When asked about CoC, Mao said she's not concerned. She doesn't think about security issue so much and she will be sent to China by the federation, so she is not bothered by the issue at all. She replied to a question from the press unhesitatingly.

This shows one of many things I love and admire her. She is wise and of a good conscience. Things could easily become a big deal which is actually what the press is greedily looking for. But she is not the one who fall for it. I'm sure she worried about CoC at a certain point. But she knows it's not something that she should share with the press.

There were many occasions in the past where the press tried to make things a big deal by asking mean questions to Mao but the girl is more intelligent. She knows what to say and what not to say. I think Mao's parents did a very good job to educate their children.

It seems this season judges are more strict for 3z. People started to talk about it when junior GPS started and now it looks like the same for senior ladies and men. I hope judges will be equally strict about edge call for 3F too.

I also have a question about -3 GOE. I understand -3 is supposed to be given to a jump fall but not to a poorly executed jump as long as skater didn't fall. There are some judges who gave -3 to not fallen jumps. Mao, Ashly and Akiko got it. Why?

The -3 scores are quite random - So I would not suspect favoritism...
I really want Mao to concentrate on her jumps - She needs more speed going in them -
