- Yu-na is capable of getting over 200 at 4CC. - Yu-na is injury-free all season and very confident about her skating. - Judges' opinion on Yu-na and her sales pitch to other judges for Yu-na Kim She said judges are aware that only a couple of skaters are at the top of the game and they tend to set these two skaters apart from the field. Even among the top two skaters, according to Ms. Lee, judges put Yu-na ahead of Mao. She went on to add that the judges will increase Yu-na's marks as much as they can to fully reward her techniques and skills. In conclusion, Ms. Lee got the impression from the conversation she had with the other judges that judges knew Yu-na is ahead of Mao. _________________
It's weird to hear this from a judge. I mean, is it normal to hear this from a judge. Do they usually talk about their preferences ?It looks like she means that no matter how much Mao makes an effort, Yuna will also be better than her....what a comment. Weird...

https://www.dailymotion.com/ippanjin2008 I wonder what she wrote in the head of the lady?! Great fuff! Thanks bibi! What plans does Mao have for February? Huh?? Which video are you guys talking about? I saw this one: https://www.dailymotion.com/ippanjin2008/video/x8bj6c_mao-news_sportThis says there was a murder incident near the hotel where Mao was staying at in Vancouver, and the suspect ran into the hotel and that's where the police caught him (that's the picture). In fact, the photo is one that Kozu's dad took. SCARY!!!!!!!!! MissAero - Yes you are reading it right. Guys, I don't know what is going on. According to that article, when asked about having a knee injury, Mao said "Not at all." And when they asked if she missed practice because of an injury, she said "That's not true." According to this article: http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2009/02/09/07.html One of the JSF officials said that he hadn't heard anything about an injury. Skaters and coaches have to notify the JSF if they rest for 3 days or more because of injury. It seems that they're going to strengthen this rule/be strict about it going forward, in part because of this incident. So I'm not sure what to think - on one hand, I'll be glad if Mao was not injured at all, but then I wonder what happened to her. On the other hand, I don't think Mao would lie - she would say "I can't answer that." So hmm...something is going on... Here are some other articles related to 4CC and some translated bits: http://vancouver.keizai.biz/headline/472/ During rehearsal for the exhibition, the skaters were giving each other high-fives, and the Japanese skaters were teaching the Canadian skaters interesting Japanese phrases, and everyone was laughing. There was an audience question corner, which Kozu also participated in. A group of Japanese girls asked "Which of us is your type?" and Kozu was bewildered and consulted with Nobu, who was sitting next to him. Finally he answered "All of you are so beautiful, so I can't pick," and gave a pained smile. Though I think I could guess the type of girl Kozu likes. About her FP: http://vancouver.keizai.biz/headline/470/ About the free program, Mao said "It was the best performance given my condition today. Before I performed, I thought 'I absolutely want to do one good triple [axel]', so when I missed the first one, I thought 'I absolutely will do the next one' and jumped. I know what the problem with my jumps is, but it's a secret." In all the articles I read Mao came across as really wanting to win Worlds. polosatik - Mao is going to home to Japan (for a week, apparently, but I haven't read that from a news source), and then going to train in Russia right up until Worlds. I guess it's like what she was planning to do for 4CC - go to Moscow and then fly directly from Moscow to America. Well I guess Mao is going to be in Japan for Valentine's Day...I wonder if she's planning to give anyone chocolates... ddmm - I don't know what to say about the Korean judge's report. But I will say what *I* believe, and I believe that if Mao is able to pull out her personal best and give a beautiful, flawless performance, then not even a perfect Yu-Na Kim can bring her down!

| ddmm, This is Mao's fan forum. Do we really need to read those stupid remarks of some Korean judge? And it seems that the majority of your posts here are somehow related to Korean fans and Yuna. What's that?
Actually, those remarks in your post about judges' preferences regarding Mao and Yuna are strangely similar to the thing I read on Korean board right after 2007 GPF. Quoting Jihee Lee the Korean judge, Yuna's Korean fans said international judges love Yuna so much better than Mao so Yuna will win 2008 worlds and pretty much every title possible blah blah blah..
Total nonsense. | |

Mao and Takahiko arrived to Centrair airport. and a liitle interveiw from Mao.
http://www.fnn-news.com/news/headlines/articles/CONN00149139.html Thanks coconut!! Mao says "I'm not satisfied. At Worlds, I want to do everything that I've done so far perfectly." At the bottom of the article Mao is quoted as saying "First and foremost, I want to make the combo and the lutz in the short my own [ie master it], and bring out all my strength at Worlds." Oops, maybe I should've read this before posting in the Mao strategy thread. You go Mao, you conquer the combo and the 3Lz!! I blame Mirai for bringing up the double date thing , because when I saw the clip of Mao and Kozu walking through the airport together, all I could think was "aww, they look so cute together." ETA - This interview is basically the same as above, but the clip of Mao sneezing at the end is so cute/funny! She says "Excuse me!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAMPM4IuQkkLook at all the camera flashes after she sneezes! Poor Kozu though - he didn't get any mention.

| Thanks for the links Nanae! Aww, how I love my Mao+Yu-Na banquet pics. Yu-Na must be wearing some crazy heels though - she was taller than some of the guys! Here's a more detailed translation of a Japanese news article on the murder incident outside of the Hyatt Regency Vancouver (4CC headquarters): http://www.chunichi.co.jp/chuspo/article/sports/news/CK2009021002000125.html Murder incident at the hotel where the Japan team was staying - No injuries to the skaters or staff
On the night of the 7th near the Hyatt Regency Vancouver hotel where the Japan team was staying, a man was stabbed to death. Of the four suspects, three fled into the Hyatt Regency and were arrested. Takahiko Kozuka's father, Tsuguhiko Kozuka, who came to watch the competition, caught the incident on camera, and recalled the events vividly. There were no injuries to the skaters or people related to the competition. [some stuff omitted here] ...Of the four suspects, one was arrested on the scene by a police officer, while the other three fled into the hotel. The police officers who ran after them pinned them down and arrested them. Takahiko Kozuka's father, Tsuguhiko Kozuka, happened to be on the scene. While seeing off a Canadian friend, he went outside the hotel and came across the scene. "The victim had already been wheeled away on a gurney, but it was a 'sea of blood.'" The three that were not arrested on the scene ran into the hotel. The police officers yelled "Freeze" in a loud voice, and the officers, wielding guns, arrested the suspects one by one. Mao and the other ladies skaters were at the men's competition that evening, and the incident happened right after they returned to the hotel. Luckily, Mao was in her room, but Akiko Suzuki happened to see the incident. "We finished watching the men's competition, and I thought I'd go shopping...and then I was really surprised." If the timing had been a little different, the skaters or the competition staff might have been dragged into the incident. **************** I say again, SCARRY! Thank goodness no one else got hurt. But I read an article today about some parts of Vancouver being very dangerous. I hope the Japan team will be very careful next year! Please check out the " Recent Mao news" thread for some more news stories - they don't all relate to 4CC, so I thought I'd post them there.

That is really really scary. Thanks for the news update, though! It is such a relief that none of the skaters were hurt or involved in any way, but I feel bad for the poor man I hope there are no incidents like this at the Olympics since everyone keeps saying how the 4cc were like the Olympics "test drive" Hopefully this just means that they will take much higher security measures to protect the athletes and staff next year.

Anyone know? http://davecskatingphoto.com/photos/20094CC/banquet/IMG_3877A.jpgMaoMaoRevolution - Welcome to the forum! I agree - I hope there are no incidents like this next year, though I'm sure the security will be extremely tight at the Olympian village where the athletes are staying. Radio Canada commentary? One last 4CC thing. I was watching the 4CC videos at work on the Radio Canada site (because youtube and IN are blocked) - and I was wondering if any of the French speakers (bibi? chiyori?) could summarize what the announcers said about Mao's performances? I would appreciate it! See here: http://www.radio-canada.ca/sports/Patinage/#The links to the 4CC videos are on the bottom right; click the + to expand the list. Mao's FS is somewhere in the middle of the "Samedi 7 Fevrier 2009" video, and the SP is in one of the earlier ones, but I can't remember which...Thanks!

| Commentators: Richard Garneau and Alain Goldberg (from left to right on the screen) All in all, during the entire performance, there is not much to translate, but a few things. After the singled 3A, Goldberg actually says "Unbelievable!!" He sounds pretty confident in Mao's ability if he's that stunned she missed it And when she pulls off the second one, aside from exclaiming "Triple Axel!!! She went for it!" (you have to note here that Alain Goldberg exclaims at all the jumps by naming them "3Lz!!", "3T!!", etc., and points many of the elements a skater is doing, from the kind of spin, and the changes of edge and positions within the spin, to a spread eagle, spiral, etc.), they say something that might translate as "She just told the others she would not give this up without a fight". Very Mao-like indeed. Aside from that, they mention that Mao has "beautiful skating", probably refering to her skating skills as they say this between a spin and a spiral while she's doing crossovers, and that although her face doesn't show a lot of emotions, her body and her arms make up for it. They describe her spiral as having "attitude", as well as showing extreme flexibility... alright anyone can see that obviously. lol I told you guys he liked pointing things out. For her 3L: "Triple loop!!!" (obviously...) and "What a 3L!" Then when Mao doubles her 3T, Garneau comments that this is usually one of the easier triples, Goldberg points at that different skaters struggle with different jumps (I think he's hilarious when he commentates but I really do love him for this little comment). They don't say much in the step sequence, aside that there are a lot of material in there. And end it with a flower for her last "excellent" spin. "Bravo! A great effort and a very beautiful skate." Replays: for the 2nd 3A "Oh yes! That is absolutely unbeleivable. She pulled it off beautifully." In the K&C, they mention that her total score is 23 points lower than her PB at NHK in 2006. Oof! Translating a video like that is a lot more difficult than a written text. It sounds so jumbled... oh well. If I missed something you'd like me to point out, I'd be happy to translate it for you. It's kinda rare I get to help out with languages on this forum | |

| Thank you so much for translating, chiyori!!!! Wow, that's cool that translating is your job! I hope it was not too much work outside of work... I'm so glad the commentators appreciated Mao's skating and her performance! From their tone of voice, and a few of the comments ("Magnifique!") - I could guess that they enjoyed it, but I really wanted to know what they said. So thanks again. - chiyori wrote:

I totally agree with this last point! Mao's skating is just so beautiful, and you can see all the emotion in her body! Facial expression is overrated, in my opinion. (Though of course I love to see Mao's smiling face in her EX!)
