| Thanks for the advice, everyone. Hopefully I'll have my name back soon! - Quote :

but with Mao in the middle it would be the most beautiful podium I've ever seen !!! That podium reminds me of the seventies. The whole rink looks sort of tacky, but as long as I see a beautiful Mao program on the ice and she's on the podium, they both look great to me!

What venue are the skating events being held at?
From aoi88's article: "She opens the program up with two Triple Axels (one in combination), which is nothing to f*** with." At the same arena that 4CCs 2009 was held in (I'm forgetting the exact name at the moment). Here's a youtube video fom SBS showing the arena (you can see it during the pairs practice): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxyhChaRUPsI'm not really a fan of the design... very busy and sort of weird. However, perhaps the green and blue colors will be soothing to the skaters during competition? ETA: Here's some old Olympic board designs to compare: 1998: Very simple and very sparse design: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cH6z-gwiSRc2002: Again, pretty simple https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtQ_8Zs_RjQ&feature=related2006: Colorful, but not busy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELFerA2QZX8

| "She opens the program up with two Triple Axels (one in combination), which is nothing to f*** with." ^ Quoted because it's true. Like honestly, most male skaters would die for two triple axels. | |

Thanks for all the links I have to agree...too many colors in a swirling pattern for me! I feel bad complaining about Mao's Olympics, but the Vancouver 2010 decor just seems novelty to me. I personally thought Salt Lake's rink design was really regal and captured the scale of the Games. I mean here they have trees and birds and fountains...it seems like a mural (and greater opportunity for skater costume clash) But like you said, at least it seems like a really calming color choice

| The color scheme is definitely... unique. The first thing the rink design reminded me of is the Winterfresh gum ad a few years back. | |

| New Olympic article on Mao and Miki http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9DP4NN01&show_article=1 It's very encouraging to see that Mao knows that her SP performance will be the key in challenging for the gold. It's glad to hear that both Miki and Mao are in the right frame of mind going to the Olympics. There's also a tidbit on Daisuke (whom I will be cheering for ). Go Team Japan Can't believe the pairs event start in a few days! I will be so nervous watching the events, especially the Ladies SP! | |

For Japan, it's Akemi Okazaki (speed skating). It's her 2..3rd..? OP. For Korea, I don't know.

| Thanks for the link, aoi88! Here's a silly little article--it's showing some Canadian newspaper that has a blurb on Mao, except that it has Akiko Suzuki's picture instead of Mao's. http://www.sanspo.com/vancouver2010/news/100211/oai1002110003000-n1.htmSighh... I'm not that surprised though. In 2008, when NBC had a little Winter Olympics preview on their Olympics site, they had a blurb on Mao, but they showed Yukari's picture. Oh, and, BTW, I've added 2 posts to my blog...my goal is to get everything written before the ladies competition starts! | |

| I must say I'm concerned that a *lot* of factions are stirring up controversy before competition. I was pleasantly surprised to see a skating-related article in the "top news" section of Yahoo! but it was (unfortunately) about Plushy + his criticism of BriJou's transition score at Euros, a suspected North American lobby against European skaters, and Jamie Sale dismissing Plushy's programs. Yikes. It's too bad figure skating is garnering buzz this way in the States. Thanks for the blog update Batsuchan! | |

| Thanks for the blog updates Batsuchan! I didn't know Mao also got a time deduction before. Ugh. I really hope that doesn't happen in Vancouver. I share similar feelings with you about Yuna. On the one hand, I admire her skating, but it's kind of hard to really get into her. (And some of her crazy fans don't help either). For me, Mao is more genuine in her skating and in interviews. She always wears her emotions on her sleeves. Yuna seems to have a public persona, so it's kinda hard to really get to know her as a person. | |

| http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/.a/6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a867a3f7970b-800wiI just found this at the Yu-Na Kim livejournal. The last picture of the girl rotating, that's Mao, isn't it? I'm pretty sure, because she's wearing her costume from the 2006-2007 season and also because of the her body type. So that's why I'm rather confused since this chart is supposed to be about Yu-Na's combination only, right? A pity they couldn't find a picture of Yu-Na herself Oo Well, I hope I'm right, because I already wrote a comment in which I complained! | |
