| This is from THE ICE twitter: When Kozuka was in the U.S. to get his new program choreographed, he told Meryl Davis & Charlie White about a plan to skate a pair program with Mao. Then, they taught Taka various techniques. Needless to say, those techniques are used in the pair program for the show! Davis & Davis will take part in the show too. ETA: Kozu joked on his blog that he'll watch out not to be kicked by Mao while they are practicing. | |

| Can't wait to see their pairs program! I wasn't able to read this blog post, but the pictures are adorable http://ameblo.jp/shion-925/entry-10950774044.htmlPS. As a US-based fan, I'm wondering if the music selection from Castle of Cagliostro is akin to choosing music from a Disney classic (where Mao gets to be the fairy princess, of course!)? I also wonder if Taka's mom will play a role in choreographing/helping Mao & Taka with this program, since she is an ice dancer. | |

| bibi for the clip. I had a bit of time so I translated the clip. Mao and Takahiko are introduced as childhood friends. Since they’ve started training together, what have they learned from each other? Taka-chan: She trains and practices a lot! I like her sense of optimism. No matter what, she is able to see things in a positive way. Those are two things I’ve learned from Mao. Mao-chan: He is a high level athlete. Everything he does, his jumps, his spins and his skating are all of the highest quality. There are a lot of things I can learn from him. Just by practicing together, I get to absorb a lot from him. I think it is a very good thing. Narrator: Since they decided to do an Ice-Dancing program for THE ICE, they have been practicing in between their training sessions. They’ve even discussed… Mao-chan: We’ve been doing so well together. As a joke, we’ve even said we should compete for Ice-Dancing too. Taka-chan: Once we are done with Singles, we should do Ice-Dancing! There is the new Team Event! Of course, I am lying. Narrator: The music for their program together is Lupin the 3rd. Kozuka plays Lupin the 3rd and there is a part in the program where he forcefully grabs Asada’s hand and takes her away. How do you feel about that type of guy (are you attracted to that type of guy)? Mao-chan: Yes… Well… Maaa… Taka-chan: (Interrupts her!) Yes, how do you feel (about that type)? Mao-chan: Maa… Being lead… I wonder how I feel (about that type)…? It depends on the situation! Narrators: (They are discussing how well Taka-chan and Mao-chan get along). Apparently Taka-chan has the music from Lupin the 3rd stuck in his head. He is really into the program. Mao said that doing a pair number with her sister was about synchronizing their moves together. Doing a number with a man is different. There is more variety. | |

| Thanks for the translation Spacy! I didn't know Mao and Taka have known each other and been training together since they were kids. That was pretty funny when Mao halfway said she liked that type of guy, and how Taka reacted to it. How he reacted was how someone who definitely has a crush on her, or is already her boyfriend would react. If he had no interest in her like that, do you think he would have reacted that way? I don't ! | |

I don't ! The clip was from Aichi figure skating competition. I remember that Mao said they knew each other around age 10 (not sure whose age 10) They met each other in local rinks from time to time. I think due to the budget, they don't rent the rink for private use all the time. and they spent a lot of time together when they were starting those junior competitions offshore. Even they are students of chukyo , she didn't stay there often since she spent more time offshore with her ex-coach before. In addition, most of skaters will book the rink for private use. Before Mao trains by Sato coach, actually they don't have so much time to look each other's training so closely.

I don't ! Mao did not half-way say that she is attracted to that type of guy. She was wondering about it when Taka-chan interrupted her. I was a little surprised. It almost seemed like he was eager to find out about her type. Or, it may just mean that he is teasing her as a friend. Mao said that depending on the situation she may or may not be attracted to that type of guy. I don’t think she knows. Mao and Takahiko have not been training together since they were children. They’ve known each other since they were kids but only started training together last year under Sato. They did train at the same rink at Chukyo University. They probably trained together (like all the elite Japanese skaters do) at the skating training camps organized by the Japanese Skating Federation. I think that is how Mao met Dai and how Shizuka met Mao and Dai too. Mao, Miki, Yukari, Akiko, Kanako, Takahiko and the legendary Midori Ito are all from Nagoya. Actually, quite a few famous Japanese athletes are from Nagoya including Ichiro Suzuki (MLB Player).
