| Btw, don't know if it's my imagination or not, but to me it looked like Mao gained a little bit of weight. She didn't look super thin at all. | |

Oh, this makes me feel a little relieved. I actually thought Mao looked way too thin watching videos. I was a little worried. Btw, amazing photos! Thank you so much!!

| Thank you so much asya-chan! Mao does look better and healthy. Not to mention, her makeup skills have gone up tenfold! Thanks a lot for the clips, emmie! I have a question about the CBC coverage, does CBC not air the SP for the ladies?? I haven't seen them anywhere for this competition and NHK. Just wondering... Thanks edberg830 & sweetdream! - ddmm wrote:
- Watching the press conference, the translator for Mao and Yuzu is the guy from the Japanese federation. I wonder if they couldn't find a proper person to translate. I mean, this guy does not understand nor speak english and he's not translating what Mao was saying.
This is very serious. A press conference is a very important moment for skaters to talk to the world and here you have this guy just saying 'her answer is the same'...come on please !!!! - zarinaballerina wrote:
- I kept thinking the same. Her english was very good. Hopefully Japanese federation will bring her to Quebec.
I know the knucklehead "translator" pi**ed me off so much when he said that! You got a similar answer because you didn't even relay the question properly and then made off like she said the exact same thing because of your limited vocab! Grrr! Yes, bring the lady back for Quebec! Listen up JSF & hopefully informant/IMG lurker, Mao has made a lot of yen & dollars for you guys - the least you can do for her is hire a proficient interpreter so everything doesn't get lost in translation! My goodness! - jkblues wrote:
- but is not the first time this happends, really is anoying becuse even I who doesn´t speak japanese can realize he is not translating what Mao said
Japanese tend to have everyting perfect and well planed, but this is .. not very japanese - leo wrote:

Same here, I thought he is speaking Japanese or Chinese. I transcribed the question directed by the Russian interpreter and translated what Mao said (and omitted what the guy said because he didn't really say what Mao said and added things she didn't say ). *I typed this as I was listening so if you guys want to make corrections, feel free to do so Mao: My initial impression after today’s free was that firstly, I was relieved that I made it to the final; performance-wise I was only able to perform at about 50% of my abilities so that part of it was a little regrettable, but I’d like to work hard in preparation for the finals in order to have a better skate there. Rus: The question to Mao: Mao, this is slightly…um, the last couple of years you did not go to the final and also, the since last time since 2008 that you won the grand prix event and so how does it feel for you, this um like come back? Mao: It’s been a very long time since I’ve qualified to the final so I’m very happy, that is why I will do my best to practice hard until the final so that I will be able to show an even better performance. Adding to what she said because of the guys stupid remark Mao: Fine/then, yes, these past two years I wasn’t able to qualify to the finals, in that regard I’ve had feelings like frustration, but thus far, things are getting better little by little so I think that’s what has led to me reach the final. Rus: The question to Mao is you said, initially 50% of what you could do, were you affected by the long wait for Alena Leonova marks? Mao: Concerning the slow (wait), it had no affect. Rus: Mao, um, I asked Adelina what she feels about competing with you now and now what do you feel about competing with Adelina who’s coming up from the junior ranks? Mao: I often skated with Adelina-chan whenever I went to Russia to get choreography done by Tatiana-sensei. She is really sweet and I every time I skate with her I’m really amazed by how skilled and wonderful she is. This time, competing together at this competition really helped push me and I’d like it if we can continue to motivate each other more and more. Rus: The question to Mao is Russian ladies singles skating is on the rise in the recent years that more in Moscow skaters, do other skaters feel pressure because of this, do you expect all Russian skaters to skate well? Mao: There really are a lot of great skaters in Russia, and they really motivate me and because of that I always think that I need to work hard. I feel like there are times when it does turn into pressure and there are times when it does not, but I’d like to stick it out. Rus: The first question was to Adelina- with you're the face of this competition, did the Russian figure skating federation ask you before they put your face on the poster. And Adelina said, I was very much surprised I did not expect it. And the second question was to you, obviously you must have been on a poster somewhere else because you’re such a famous and such a charming skater, how does it feel to see yourself on photographs? (guy interjects- “it was such a charming smile”)…has she ever been on a poster herself and how does it feel for her? If Mao is on the poster in Japan for something, how does it feel? Mao: But it happens a lot, so in that way I’m very used to it. Sometimes I'm on it. All right guys, I'm off to be a hermit for a while to ! I hope you guys have an awesome week!

| Thank you everyone for links, pics, clips! Thank you maowataiyo for fabulous translation!!! If Team Mao is really reading this forum, they must be happy and relieved!! It's frustrating when interpreters do not translate with accuracy. But, as you know this man is from JSF and his job is not interpreter. I guess the team Japan had no choice but relied on an officer who spoke English best among those accompanying the athletes in Russia , probably because of cost ... Hiring interpreter like the lady who often help JSF and was again at NHK trophy is not cheap, especially when you also need to cover expenses and allowances associated with travelling overseas. Any chibis + Mao = This brick wall looks like the same as when Mao was kissed by that little boy. I think it's so great to see Mao having this approachable quality to her that engulfs everyone in sweetness. I think that's why we see so many instances where other people have a sweet moment like this with her and the flower girls and the pic with Yuzuru this time around, Taka @ The ICE, etc. - shikure wrote:

- https://2img.net/u/2614/83/63/57/smiles/506166.gif[/img] Mao does need to buy a new dress! She looks nice but we've seen her wear that dress many, many, many times. I know she likes to shop for casual clothes. She really needs to buy some non-wrinkling stylish formal dresses pronto! Mao appears to be a very practical traveler. She always looks super comfortable in her casual clothing at the airport. She usually wears sweatpants. I remember Dai mentioning something about Mao being tomboyish. Fashion is not a huge priority to her. She prefers being comfortable over being stylish. She hardly ever wears any makeup too. Well she doesn't really need it!
Spacey, ITA. Mao is a natural beauty, but a pretty girl like her and all these chances for dress up- she should wear something new & step up her game ASAP! My brother is the same exact way, in terms of recycling attire that he likes. Mao wore the same hand-me-down pink dress & beaded shawl from Mai's closet at Nobu's wedding which she also wore to the GPF banquet a few years back. She is definitely a tomboy at heart with a underlying motto of comfort and casual above anything. But if I had those stems of hers, I'd do like Cameron Diaz and whip those babies out!

| I promised to write more, so here is my little review. men I wanted Yuzuru to win so badly!!! Though Jeremy owned the sp competition, it was ,well I can say better then Patrick "famous deep edges". Breathtaking skating! Javier was the most loved skater, we had more Spanish flags then Russian ,really Our forum applauded to technical controller! What a work! 0.03 points! At the medal ceremony Yuzuru put his medal on his coach, it was so touching!!! ladies Mao was like a princess, so light, fresh and elegant, it was pure beauty!!! When she came close to us, she was glowing, like a sun!!!! It's impossible not to love her After the FS, we were afraid Mao would be under Alena, because it's Russia, but when we saw the scores we shouted like crazy. I was crying, my friend tried to calm me down, the whole tribune looked at us with huge eyes They couldn't understand why we were so happy!!! But you know, it was so incredible, everyone know we love Mao, and many people from different Russian forums came to me and said"congratulations" , I felt like it was me who won!!! pairs Alena and Robin were in class of their own, I was speechless, Pina is the best program I've even seen in pairs! It was the best event, I'm so happy with the winners and medallists! At the gala I set next to Japanese fans, and one lady was amazed by my "go Mao "banner, she was very nice and we talked a little about gala and Mao I told her that Mao is the best skater in the world and she was so happy!!! We even waved to Mao together with my banner Gala was so great! especially I loved the finale, Mao and Yuzury stood right in front of me and talked!!! I felt Yuzu was a little bit shy talking to Mao!
