- They introduce a South Korean lady named Sakana. She foretells that this year (the only such year) that she will need to think about a lot of things. It will be a year in which she will be prone to be deeply emotionally injured. She will just have to tough it out. She says that Mao is a girl that works very hard. Even during the darkest of times, she should firmly believe in herself and not give-up. She should be courageous. This year will be a year where results will be difficult to attain. Despite the prediction of an ominous fortune, there is something she can do to increase her luck. The fortune teller advises her to use the color blue to boost her fortune.
This was a translation of one segment of a show way back in May 2011. I don't believe in fortune telling, but it was eerie how the ominous prediction turned out to be true in a way. That's really eerie! But if we go by what she said -- that it's going to be the only such year -- then I hope we're in for "better" years starting from this season.

| I just saw this on my youtube. It seems like they were analising Mao's season so far. Shizuka looks prettier by the day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wmpLt8R6GA Mao is so pretty but sometimes I just want her to ditch the pony tail and put her hair down. She has beautiful hair, after all. Although I understand that's how she feels comfy. hehee | |

Mao is so pretty but sometimes I just want her to ditch the pony tail and put her hair down. She has beautiful hair, after all. Although I understand that's how she feels comfy. hehee Me too I would also love to see her skate with her hair down, but i think it would be too distracting while jumping! I agree w/ both of you. The boring bun/ponytail has gotten kind of old, but Mao always looks pretty no matter what her hairstyle. One thing I would like for her to maybe change is her hairstyle when she's not skating. It seems like every time I see her on TV or in an interview or whatever, her hair is always a half-pony w/curls. It's really cute, but, she could use a little more variety. Maybe just a simple side part would be nice . Don't get me wrong, though; Mao is still gorgeous no matter what!!!

I'm so happy to see Makino-san! I hope he can go with Mao to Olympics again. He seems to know what he is doing out of all of the trainers that Mao worked with- and it seems that Mao really trusts him.

| http://hochi.yomiuri.co.jp/sports/winter/news/20121224-OHT1T00189.htmMao says she will go to Canada in Jan. and have Lori to make some minor changes in her SP. She's been practicing 3-3 combination both -3T and -3L. She will wind down at home during New Year holidays and clean her room. She's been busy with competitions and she didn't have time for pulling together letters she received. Using a chart as an example, she thinks she's moved up to a half point from zero of improvement curve. I wonder if she's going to do 3L-3L in SP at 4CC. | |

I wonder if she's going to do 3L-3L in SP at 4CC. Thank you, linglang. If I understand the news correctly, it mentions two jumping combinations that Mao has been working on: 3F-3L and 3F-3T. So I think at least we will get to see a modified version of the I got rhythm SP at 4CC...(soooo~ looking forward to that! Although I don't want Mao to take out her huge 2A for now, but well, if she wants to upgrade that 2A to 3A...)

I always forget. Which is the 3-3 combo with highest value? From triple-triple 3lutz-3loop. But no one is doing it now. combos with loops are much more difficult.

If she'll be going for 3A at 4CC I hope it'll be 3-3 in the SP and 3A in the LP, this way she has some grounds to make up on, if she'll mess up the 3A, while in the SP it kills her chances. Just imagine a clean SP with 3-3 in it, the score is going to be sky high, she doesn't need to risk 3A, imo. Oh, and I hope it's going to be 3F-3T, the loop combo is likely to get downgraded.

| qwell depends greatly on which jump combo Mao feels most comfortable doing, I actually think she might prefer the 3F-3lo combo, but her 2a-3t looks is huge, so a 3f-3t could also very well be likely. well it will be soooo interesting to see what she choses! when is 4CC? | |

| I think for every skater the difficulty of elements is different. I always find for Mao 3a is easier then 3-3 for example, how long she has not doing this combo? The last one was in 2008-2009 season I believe, a lot of time ago. Also she used to jump loop combos, they are easier for her, so I thank saying she should do 3f-3t cause it's easier is not really right. Yes it's easier, but not for Mao. I can give Liza as an example, 3t-3t is easier but for some reason she can't do it consistently, but 3l-3t going much more smoothly. | |

Yes I agree, she should go for whatever she feels more comfortable with, however, I'd really like to see her 3-3 getting full credit, which I'm affraid her 3F-3Lo won't. Judges and especially tech controlers LOVE to downgrade anything with 3Lo in it. 4CC is in Osaka from 6-11 February. Worlds is only a month later. I hope Mao will take at least a couple of days off, to get some rest between these two competitions.

I agree and it's mindbogling to find a female skater who thinks/feels 3A is EASIER than 3-3! She trully is one of a kind. Hopefully she'll soon be able to put all, 3A and 3-3 in her programs successfully. I personally prefer combinations with 3T because as I said already, they're more likely to get ratyfied.

I always forget. Which is the 3-3 combo with highest value? From triple-triple 3lutz-3loop. But no one is doing it now. combos with loops are much more difficult. Theoretically, the 3-3 with the highest base value is a 3A-3Lo. 3A combos are exceptionally rare in the ladies' field, and I know only Mao (3A-2T and 3A-2Lo, but the latter never in competition) and Midori Ito (3A-3T in practice for Olys). Among the feasible 3-3 jumps, yes, a 3Lz-3Lo has the highest base value. Remember that loop combos with the loop at the back end of the combo are more difficult to do because only the landing leg from the front end propels the skater into the back end of the combo. 3-3Lo users are rare, and these include Mao (3F-3Lo), Tara Lipinski (3Lo-3Lo), Miki Ando (3Lz-3Lo) and Adelina Sotnikova (3lz-3Lo). Many others use the 3T as the second jump (Kim, Kostner, Tuktamysheva). Alokya and ballerinamao I would love to see Mao's look under your supervision! She'll sure be a winner in looks and on ice for sure!

| I think she's working on the 3F+3T because she plans something like this for the FS: 3Lo 3A 3F+3T 3Lz 3S 3Lo+2Lo+2Lo 3F+2Lo She can't do the 3F+3Lo because she's already done 2 loops... But, if she does 3F+3Lo in the SP, which one do you think the solo jump would be? The lutz? The toeloop? Can you imagine the score of a SP with 3A, 3F+3Lo and 3Lz? 85? | |
