| i wanted to skip school so bad today just so i could see how mao skated sooner. She skated SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD. but honestly, those judges really must hate mao. Her spins and spirals are some of the best and deserve more than a level one and two. Her extention, edges and positions can't be beaten! i believe she should have gotten more but i'm glad to see mao so happy with her performance!

| Mao deserved more! Level 1 for spiral sequence? Level 2 for spins? What? Why? Weird! And today the score of pairs was weird too. I love S/S but that score with so many fails... I don't understand! Well but they were better in the other things, thought. But Mao was so good! Lovely skate and dress! And her triple filp - triple loop is getting better and better and better. So wonderful! Good Luck Mao! | |

| i just don't get the judges this season, mao was undermarked and not to single her out but i think yu-na's marks were higher than she should have gotten. she fell and underrotated her lutz and still recieved higher than other's who had practically perfect programs. | |

I agree. As far as I love Yu Na so much, she got the same scores as the other skaters who have skated almost perfectly...

| Mao's beautiful and strong performance moves me to tears. Mao is really a special skater. photos http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/apphoto/photo?photoId=1870027&sportId=1850http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/apphoto/photo?photoId=1870015&sportId=1850http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/apphoto/photo?photoId=1870011&sportId=1850http://web.icenetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080319&content_id=46046&vkey=ice_newsEuropean champ Kostner wins ladies short Lying only 0.18 points behind Kostner is last year's world silver medalist, Mao Asada of Japan. Her program, choreographed by Lori Nichol and set to Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, was highlighted by a splendid, +1.57 GOE triple flip-triple loop combination, which earned a total of 12.07 points. The judges, however, ruled that she took off from the wrong edge on her triple Lutz later in the program, limiting the GOE on that element to no better than -1. "My jumps were good, but my spins and spirals were not a high level, so I want to improve on that for tomorrow," said Asada, who moved back to Japan recently after training in Lake Arrowhead, Calif., for most of the season. "I didn't feel any impact being here without my coach, because coaches from the federation checked on my levels." Although her spirals started in beautiful positions, she was given a Level 1, instead of her usual Level 4, because each position wasn't held for the required time. "I haven't seen my video yet, so I haven't made an analysis. But I will sit down and watch it to adjust something for tomorrow," she said. http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5i8YIoStJNGDCmx3aceCVkLTRI5SQKostner leads Japanese duo at world figure skating championships (AFP) Asada, 17, gave a flawless presentation to Fantasia for Violin and Orchestra by Jean-Claude Petit, and warned she could do better on Thursday. "I'm satisfied with my jumps but not with the level of my pirouettes," she said. "There isn't much difference with Kostner. I'm a bit disappointed not to be leading but I'll do my best tomorrow." | |

Japanese Fuji TV will air ladies SP 8 hours later from now. http://www.isu.org/vsite/vcontent/content/transnews/0,10869,4844-128610-19728-18886-283640-3572-4771-layout160-129918-news-item,00.htmlISU World Figure Skating Championships - Day 2 Asada’s lyrical routine to “Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra” by Jean-Claude Petit included a solid triple flip-triple loop combination, a double Axel and a triple Lutz. The reigning World silver medallist was awarded a level three for her flying sit spin, but the spiral sequence was graded a level one and the combination spin and layback spin were a level two. The 17-year-old earned 64.10 points (35.22/28.88 ), which was a new seasons best for her. “My jumps were good but my spins and spirals were not of high level so I want to improve on that for tomorrow”, Asada said. ”I didn’t feel any impact being here without my coach because coaches from the federation checked on my levels. | Wow, Mao's SP was truly spectacular!!! Thank you all for the news and links! I wish I could follow the results online, but this season's Worlds really couldn't happen at more inconvenient time - not only work kept me busy, but also it's only a few days away from Easter (cleaning & shopping! ). Here is Mao's SP with Japanese commentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFUsWyNjinUI'm so sad that Taheshi Honda didn't do the commentary! He and Fumio Igarashi are my favourite Japanese commentators. Shizuka is lovely as an anchor in the studio, and she is very knowledgeable about the skating, but her commentary is very cool/technical. I think, however, that she really cares about how the skaters perform and is a bit afraid of jinxing them if she praises them too much... She is usually much warmer in the studio, after the competition is over. On a totally superficial side - whoever did Mao's make-up, they did a great job! She looked much more mature. A bit heavier than usual eye make-up, slightly changed eyebrow shape and tastefully chosen lipstick turned her from charming into a gorgeous lady. Plus, thanks to the make-up her facial expression really showed on TV. The expression as she launches into SLSS... Very powerful and passionate!

| Mao's LP starts at 6:00 AM in Japan. I cant' t sleep. http://iceblue.cocolog-nifty.com/figure/2008/03/post_92ac.htmlMao's comment about SP not introduced thus far (my poor translation) The flip was almost over rotated but I could manage to control it to jump a Loop. When I finished my performance, I thought I did a clean performance and was happy. I didn't feel a pressure at SP. It's not a pressure. Well, I was thinking that I never make the same mistake I did at the last worlds. I was saying to myself "Go ahead!" I really regret that my spins couldn't get good levels. I thought I was counting correctly how much I turned, but... As the coaches from JSF help me, I don't feel difficulty without a personal coach. I began to train with the coaches 2 weeks before the worlds. I think my performance was as good as before. | |
