| Thank you for the information, shikure! I googled Steps NY. "Steps on Broadway, founded in 1979, is more than just a dance studio. It is an internationally recognized community of artists, committed to the cultivation of individuality and talent, to the joy, the work, the focus, and the abandon of dance. Classes are offered seven days a week at all levels in ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, tap, theater dance, hip hop, ethnic, and body conditioning." http://www.stepsnyc.com/home/And thank you for the photo, josling! Han Yan seems to be a bit embarrassed. I've heard that Lori will choreograph for not only Han Yan but also the other Chinese skaters including Zijun Li, Kexin Zhang and Nan Song. | |

Don't know what to think about this tweet...?! I only knew of a SP with classical music and the dream of a few members here that she'd skate to Chopin Nocture No. 20! So what do you say...!?

As it was reported earlier, Mao was awarded JOC Cup by JSF and it came with a sub-prize, a pair of tickets to Tokyo Disney Land. Mao said “They are valid for a year, so I think I can use them after Sochi (Olympics). It may be good to go there in a group or … yes.” Reporter asked “Or?” Mao said “It’s good (to go there in a group) or … well you know … hehehe.”
Mao will start her program choreography in May. She said she is planning to use a classic music for short program. She also said last year at this time she was worried a little bit, but comparing to that, things are going very positively this year, so she feels she will be able to enter the next season in good shape.
I wonder when she will reveal her new programs for next season. It's usually late in off season. But it's an Olympic year and she may reveal it earlier than usual. I'm really looking forward to them.
Did it mean anything when she said,"Or?" I think she was implying " ... or it may be good to go there with a boyfriend."

I do love her Nocturne program though, I wish she will have a new program. I wish I could see her old Nocturne program at ice show in the future. Regarding the free program which will be choreographed by Tat, I hope the steps will not be as packed as her usual programs done by Tat, especially considering the rule changes made for the step sequence.

What are rules changes for steps, linglang? I think I missed it. To answer: This is the updated "ISU Communication 1790" http://www2.isu.org/vsite/vnavsite/page/directory/0,10853,4844-205151-222374-nav-list,00.html?id=1314For the Stsq part: 1) Minimum variety (Level 1), simple variety (Level 2), variety (Level 3), complexity (Level 4) of turns and steps throughout (compulsory) 2) Rotations (turns, steps) in either direction (left and right) with full body rotation covering at least 1/3 of the pattern in total for each rotational direction 3) Use of upper body movements for at least 1/3 of the pattern 4) Two different combinations of 3 difficult turns (rockers, counters, brackets, twizzles, loops) quickly executed with a clear rhythm within the sequence (And if you're as curious as I am to know about exactly what has been changed, the version of 12-13 season is under "ISU Communication 1724")

Just got the info that the rumor of Mao skating to Chopin Nocturne is from someone who watched Lori's training sessions at the rink so it could be true... but, well, we don't know! I'm just too excited for the Olympic season and the new programs that I get nervous at every little rumor...!

(And if you're as curious as I am to know about exactly what has been changed, the version of 12-13 season is under "ISU Communication 1724") Thanks COHK. What I heard is that you don't have to through in as many difficult and complex steps as Mao usually does to get level 4 according to rule changes. While I love to see her showing off her fabulous techniques like she did especially with last season SP and LP step sequences, I hope she will be able to save some energy for other elements. I know GOE matters too in addition to levels. But, considering her age and jump layout, I thought she may be better off by not packing her step sequence as much as usual.

I agree! And seeing how some other skaters got the same level as Mao with far less intricate and difficult steps , it's a good call. This way she'll still get level 4, but will be able to keep some of her stamina and strength for jumps. I do wish however that ISU would stop changing the rules every freaking season. Instead of focusing on the little things such as changing the levels, they should IMO, come up with the rule that forbids a skaters who has fallen 3 times in a sinlge program to win the entire competition. I do not care how good the judges thought he was in SP, if you have a splat fest you don't deserve to stand on the top of the podium! Rant over.
