Midori's playing is so beautiful. One really does find oneself moved to tears by her performances. I heard Joshua Bell playing it the other day once again, and I thought, it would be beautiful if Mao could skate to it! And...when I looked, it was already posted! I totally agree with you chineseteacup! I really think that Mao should make a Chopin compilation for Chopin's 200th Birthday this year, or eventually, when she adds more Chopin to her skating- especially this one! Here's a piano recording of it, part of the Pianist soundtrack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DX-oATJzdOI&feature=searchAlthough...I prefer the violin version, even though Chopin wrote it for piano haha

| Somehow I always wanted Mao to skate to something "japanese".....I mean...she always reminds me of a Geisha or one of these ancient japanese beauties! Her round face, the white skin with those red lips and her beautiful eyes! The way she was dressed and the make up of last year, made her look somewhat mysterious and exotic...at least in my eyes. I can't explain it properly All I wanted to say is that it would be nice to see her skate to a piece that sounds japanese, maybe with some shamisen and flutes or other japanese instruments in it...I guess it sounds quite stupid the way I am saying it but I just thought about it and I think it would fit her perfectly! The piece doesn't have to be a japanese one but I think it would be cool to use a western piece and make it sound "japanese"...you know what I mean?! It would make her performance definitely stand out and make the judges notice that she's doing her own thing & also challenging herself to create something new.... or am I the only one who thinks that way?! but whatever she skates to I'll like it anyways LOL | |

I think I've shared this video before, but I'll do it again because I love it so much: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqPIskaAJgo. It's Summer Glau doing a ballet routine to the C sharp minor Nocturne from a scene in Terminator: the SCC. Considering Mao is also doing a ballet routine for her ballade EX...Mao, won't you please skate to this one day?

Cut out some repetitive parts, highlight others and get the cut right. Like you, I want to see Mao do a Japanese-inspired program. But please! Not Memoirs of a Geisha! | @ klarification oh, it's really nice! I like the beginning and the xylophone at 1:09 is my favorite part! Then it becomes somewhat funky in the end (from 2:30 on it's a bit boring)... I don't know but somehow I want to hear some harp! it would be simply perfect with harp! and I'd bring out the japanese instruments a bit more...but apart from that I simply love it! I could definitely picture Mao skating to it.... 1:18 - 2:30 soooo nice! I can already imagine the programme: at the beginning she's like a caged bird, trying to "fly" in her little cage, making jumps here and there, gliding over the ice, but wait...the xylophone: she's finding a way out...she can escape from her prison..she breaks out....and....she can fly!!!!! and then from 1:18 on she can skate out her whole heart enjoying her freedom enjoying "flying".... at least that's my association hmmm...I have to draw a costume for it hihihi..... here's what I found (it's not that good LOL): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBFGpkTYFuo <- ok, I don't really want Mao to skate to "amazing grace" but the Koto is hot & I think you could take a song that a lot of people know and interpret it in a japanese way.... and I want a shamisen in it >____<" shamisen is just brilliant, and I can imagine some fierce stepsequences coming with it this one from Joe Hisaishi, is cool as well! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEb4TG10jW8 If you would modify it a bit....maybe slow it down and bring in some other nice instruments (and to make me go completely crazy add a part with a shamisen solo for a step sequence ), then I could really see Mao rocking it ok maybe my ideas are a bit too crazy ^____^" (my imagination ran riot xDDDD)

ok maybe my ideas are a bit too crazy ^____^" (my imagination ran riot xDDDD) Oh! You have such a rich imagination! Yes, I can picture what you said. But I don't know much about the harp. Then again, I have little knowledge when it comes to knowing how the 'richness' of an instrument can be brought out. Mao as a caged bird and in the end breaking free and flying away. I love this concept of yours~ And the koto one is brilliant too, although a little bit boring for me. Maybe a shamisen or some other accompaniment can go with it to give it a little bit of spice, if you know what I mean. AND SUMMER! JOE HISAISHI'S SUMMER! I super love his compositions and I think Mao should skate to at least one of his pieces. And yes, Summer is a memorable piece, although it needs to be retouched to make it fit a skating program. edit!I'm sorry for doing this but I don't wanna make a double post: Elgar - Salut D'Amour https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWrs5sGun-YLitolff: Scherzo from Concerto Symphonique #4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE4i9Eqe_gs Invitation to Dance. | your song really inspired me somehow Now I really want Mao to skate to something similiar..... A song that brings across the feeling of freedom & breaking out. Somehow it even fits her situation in a way and it would be a nice contrast to her "Masquerade/bells of Moscow-phase"! With the "richness" as you called it, I was only thinking of having parts in the song where you can clearly hear the japanese instruments, so that everyone can recognize them right away... and yes the harp when I listened to the song I thought right away..."there needs to be a harp" but I can't really explain why LOL "Summer" pretty much conveys the same feelings as the other piece. It's a bit more catchy but maybe not as suitable as the other one (for figure skating).... the song with Koto only, would be pretty boring indeed! I was just thinking about turning european songs into japanese ones... but there needs to be some more instruments of course. Mao could use an Ayumi Hamasaki song since she likes her music so much and turn it into a nice instrumental version, that would be funny Litolff: Scherzo from Concerto Symphonique #4 <- that's cool as well! but at the moment I am very much into the Joe Hisaishi piece

(And, WOW, I never thought I'd found this topic here! I've been waiting for this!) I've been wanting her to skate to something composed by a Japanese as well, especially that there are a LOT of beautiful pieces from Japanese composers these days, but I also read from a blog that the reason most skaters choose classical music came from the fact that the judges are somewhat "geriatric." But I believe that's not the case anymore as a lot of skaters are already using OSTs for their programs. As for our Mao-chan, I would have loved to see her skate to Ryuichi Sakamoto. "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence", for example, is such a lovely piece, but I know Miki-chan already used it as her SP years back. But still, I keep wondering what Mao's interpretation for that music would be like... For her SP, I would like her to skate to something made by Taku Iwasaki. A mix of "In The Rain," and "One of These Nights" particularly, for me, has so much emotion that it would showcase Mao's grace and energy in just one program. And although there are parts of the music that seem strong, but I know Mao-chan can pull it off, especially when she's on. In the Rain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhlhRZ--fvQOne of these Nights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCIQirMkjEI&feature=related(both are actually similar, but played differently) For her LP, I would love to see her skate to Aeris' Theme by Nobuo Uematsu. She could either skate to the piano piece or the orchestra version, though I prefer the orchestra version since it has more emotions for me. But I think a mix of both would be perfect for her! Piano: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVLA2-o6VOMOrchestra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCHVYnThKG0After watching Mao skate, I know she would also be good with violin pieces. It's a dream of mine to see her skate to Emmanuel, in white for her EX. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8NN4fpdm40

| I was just thinking it would be really cool if Mao can skate to a medley of pieces from Miyazaki films. The program could start with music from his earlier films (Nausicca, Laputa) and end with music from his more recent films (Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle). Actually, another good idea would be for her to skate to the soundtrack of Princess Mononoke, because the main character, San is a brave and determined young girl who loves animals. That sure reminds us of someone, doesn't it? | |

| Well I'm new to this. First post. I've been shy and have been more of a listener rather than posting anything myself. I agree with the people who mentioned Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1. There's an interesting video a user posted on YouTube with cuts of the piece replacing Masquerade from Mao's LP. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOqjRI5Xykg&feature=relatedThe same user also used cuts from O mio babbino caro by Giacomo Puccini to replace Claire de Lune for Mao's SP. It's a beautiful aria and it really suits Mao's lyrical style. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIVnOKylRDM | |

| I have another one of Hisaishi's works: This Sixth Station I think this may be my favorite piece of his works and that's saying a lot since I love almost of his works. It's such a serene and yet mysterious piece. I feel this really suits Mao because her fans and her former coaches see her as a fairy who has this mysterious and almost intangible presence on the ice. Here's a live version : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33SJ7Q_P54Q | |

| Piano version of "Smells like teen spirit" of Nirvana: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEHDhXtXAv4I love this music, but I'm not able to judge if it's good for a program. Or maybe some typical asian music? Maybe indian? Davis & White skated to indian music and their program was exellent. I would like to see some sinlge skater skating to indian music either. | |

| In a recent article, Mao lists Mika Nakashima as one of her favorite singers. That reminded me of Mika's most famous song: Yuki No Hana. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IilmZvJiql0 This song is so beautiful. Unlike a lot of female jpop stars, Mika has a rich and deep voice. And for manga fans, she plays Nana in the movie versions. This song is also the theme song for the popular Korean drama "I am sorry, I love you." Who knows, maybe if Mao skated to this piece, she could even win more Korean fans. Well one can dream! | |
