Mao has a very good position in the final group: not first (which to me is good because unless you are Carolina, skating early probably means lower PCS) and before Osmond and Yuna. It will be hard for Yuna to skate last and after Osmond. With this tough panel the best I see Mao is with a bronze this year at this point. Kanako's also prone tu UR's, that's why I am saying this.
She was very nervous yesterday, it showed. This means her jumps are still not stable enough and she doesn't fully trust herself.
I love Carolina, I hate the way she is being scored, but she is one of the most gracious person in the world. And I am happy she skates first, less pressure on her shoulders IMO.
I am happy for Meryl and Charlie, I really am, but if P/B miss the podium I will stop watching ice dance. I am sorry, I love both Russian Couples, but P/B are the better skaters IMO and I believe Russia is politicking for a medal in ice dance which really irritates me. Katia and Dimitri improved a lot since going to Zhulin but they are not in P/B league and still now, suddenly, they beat them in PCS.

Oh, some one on Twitter reported "A difficult practice for Yuzuru Hanyu this morning".

Thanks! I wish Kanako and Akiko all the best but I'm really still hoping for a third world title for Mao. They say that the old Mao is back and the old Mao is able to come from behind and win the FP. I have a funny story to tell. Yesterday, I was praying like crazy for Mao to hit her 3A- and I got it Very Happy but what i should have prayed for was for the whole program to be a success! Embarassed Now, I'll make sure I pray for each elements and the program as a whole! Razz Go Mao!!

Welcome Denlei to the forum! Razz
We will join you in praying for her.

I just want Yuzuru to get well soon. 2 spots is actually not that bad. He's more of 2018 Olympian to me. So much raw talent, but it takes time to pull everything together.

Two spots at Olys for Dai, Yuzu, Kozuka, Oda, Mura and Machida seems cruel. 3 is already a small number for the Japanese Men Sad

It's sad if Japan cannot get 3 spots. But athletes health is top priority over spots and no one can blame him if he decides to withdraw. Yep, Sadly

What drives me crazy is I/K's PCS: they have excellent speed, yes, but horrible choreography and a very juniorish interpretation, and they can still receive 34+ PCS (more than Anna/Luca and Weaver/Poje)!! Mad Very Mad

He really shouldn't have been competing here, IMO.

But I hope that somehow he'll pull through the LP and that both him and Dai will be able to secure 3 spots. Like some here have already said, having only 3 spots is already cruel, but falling down to 2 would be absolutely brutal. Depressed Crying

I completely agree, besides, there is also Mura who can surprise us and help qualify the third spot. I wish all the best to Yuzuru and hope he and his team make the best decision

Speed isn't everything, I'm not an expert but to me their overal skating skills aren't that great either, and somehow, despite evrything their PCS has increased tremendously. confused

And their free dance isn't as dificult as those of other skaters and still they score 100 at Euros.

I hope P/B will raise the audience on their feet with their fun and relaxed FD after all that drama we'll see in the last group. If there is at least a small amount of fairness in this sport, they should get the bronze IF they are clean of course. I/K have level issues which apparently Morozov isn't too interested to fix: that's too bad, really, because they are a talented team but with a crap material

THIS. They had that something special when they were with Zhulin, but Morozov killed it. Now they're just another "Morozovian" skaters. They should go to a different coach IMO.

I'd love to see B/S on the podium instead of the french team. Razz Go Katya/Dimka. Boogie

Yes, mura was much better in FS this season. He may be able to move up to 9th or above. I'll be praying he will nail gorgeous 4T & 3As and show his fabulous skating skills.

Pochi this was a wonderful post! Daisies for you I especially liked the part about Dennis. I agree, he's such a beautiful talented skater, and I'm over the moon for his SP score. Dance Now I only hope he won't crumble in the LP, this is a new situation for him, so nerves might get in his way. I hope they won't.

I completely agree with you on Adelina and especially Liza. When they were showing Liza's skate in the slow-mo and you could see her expressions, OMG, I was blown away. Swoon She was feeling every single note of the music and her expressions were to die for. She sold it like no other. And then you see the PCS judges gave her... Evil or Very Mad

I absolutely agree with you on Yuna. Yep!

And while I would like nothing more than to see Mao win this (I'm being honest), after yesterday, I just want her to skate her heart out, go clean and bring the house down. If that's enough for gold medal great, if it's not enough to even put her on podium ok as well, because at least she'll go out on a giant bang. Though, if Mao does skate lights out tomorrow, she's guaranteed a place on the podium.

Thanks for reading my post zarina...and thank you for your kind words on Denis. sunny
I so wish he can make the podium this time, but even if he doesn't, he has definitely taken one big step forward in his career and I'm sure he'll be able to go on practicing with a more positive feeling that nothing is impossible. I'm also happy for myself that I was able to believe in him all these years. I can't skate much at all, but I can sense a good skater's hidden capabilities when I see it. Denis proved anything can happen in a competition. Kevin proved that at 4CC too. So now I can believe more strongly that Mao too will once again be the strongest skater she's always wanted to be. Smile

I really feel sorry for the Russian girls. After going over the protocols and found out that Kanako had the highest TES but was placed in 3rd only because of that terribly low PCS made me feel so sorry for her too. I think the judges clearly scored most of the skater's PCS according to reputation this time. They're still treating Adelina, Liza and Kanako as if they just graduated juniors. I feel stronger than ever that TES and PCS should be scored by different groups of judges now. It's simply too much for a human being to correctly score both at the same time, and I think that's why they can't help tending to hand PCS according to reputation mainly. Evil or Very Mad

Like you I would like to see Mao win even if it may be a long shot. I just wrote Denis and Kevin proved anything is possible so there's no need to lose hope. But more than winning I'd like her to be satisfied with her performance; that she can feel she's getting better and feel confident about it. That'll be more than enough to make me happy for now. But to be honest...just one thing...I wish she'd change her 3F-3Lo to 3F-3T. The base point difference is only 1! I like second loops but it's just too risky and isn't worth it. Anyway, I just hope she can skate clean; some URs and edge calls I can take, but no falls, pops or step outs please! I love you

Btw, I think Yuna has become too skinny...no wonder she's been having stamina issues. Yep, Sadly

Why do all my favorite skaters have to go for the 3A? (not including the men of course)
But then again, S/S have no other chance if they want the gold medal.

a picture of Mao after the SP!

oh Mao, all the reporters around Mao, and her expression that shows she is in deep thoughts about what just happened, I mean how can these reporters expect the skaters to answer all there questions, when the skaters barely themselves have grasped it what just happened to them No

Don't worry ballerinamao, Mao is used to this media "attack", she deals with it from her junior days.
