NB: after showing the short clip of Mao's new SP, the announcers explained that Mao was debating if she wanted to debut the new program, as the rink size is smaller than the regular practicing one. So we shouldn't be worried if she popped a jump or two there!

The news talks about the new blades Mao changed to about a month ago. The suggestion of changing blades was from Mr. Sato. The new blades are made of carbon (steel?) and is 50 grams lighter than the previous pair. The lighter blades enable light jumps from Mao.

Indeed, in the Jpn news it only says "carbon". But when I search via google using the keywords "skating blades carbon", another co-occurred word is "carbon steel". So the steel was added on my part....

The Aichi performance will be broadcasted this Sunday (7/28) on 中京テレビ (only the 85-min version). The Osaka one will be broadcasted on (8/1) on Fuji (but only 1 hr). The full version will be on (8/17)

Mao's new SP dress is gorgeous indeed. She is hands down the best interpreter of Chopin. Those expressions and movements just melt my heart.

i made a switch from the traditional mk phantom blades to the mk phantom revolutions (the type that mao currently use) and it did take a bit of time to get accustom to, but yet again i didn't train everyday so i'm sure mao will be fine for the olympic season... that 3f she did in her EX already proves that she is already getting used to the blade! the thing with this blade is that parts of the blade is replaced with carbon fibre (the part that is attached to the boot) which makes it lighter. the blade profile doesn't change so it is easier to transition. mao used john wilson pattern 99 and they also make that model in the revolutions. i'm guessing she didn't change the profile of the blade so the only thing that really changed is parts of the blade is made of a lighter material... hope this helps! not to worry anyone but when i got my blades, the dealers said that they had a history of the carbon fibre detaching from the blade but i contacted the manufacturer and they claim that they have improved the design by pinning it down in 4 'strategic locations' and glued together to prevent it from happening... hope mao will be ok!

Wow! It's because of all of you that I'm learning about the different types of skates. Lol! As long as Mao's new blades benefit her in a way she wants it to, then we're happy!
